If you want to read Governor Mike Huckabee’s foreign policy plans click here. He wrote the article for the magazine Foreign Affairs. Quite some bloggers have already analyzed it, we haven’t dealt with it yet. I’m not sure why none of the other contributors hasn’t done so, I simply didn’t have the time yet to do so. I’ll write an analysis, however, tomorrow. So for my take on his plans, you’ll have to wait 24 hours.

Meanwhile, here is Huckabee on foreign policy, h/t Hot Air (video after the fold):

Yes, he’s very critical of George W. Bush (which is one of the reasons - of course - that so many conservative bloggers went after Huckabee in recent days). That, however, isn’t per definition a mistake, in my opinion. Perhaps electorally, but not per definition with regards to whether he’s right or not.

American conservatives may not like it, but Bush’s foreign policy isn’t very effective, in many regards. I agree with Huckabee that the US has to change its town and approach.

Having said that, his foreign policy wasn’t a complete disaster either. Huckabee pretends that Bush’s foreign policy is a failure in every way possible. That’s not the case.

But, a change, especially in tone and approach, is needed.

From an electoral point of view: I don’t quite see how this won’t hurt Huckabee among Republican voters. Again, he’s right when he says that Bush made quite some mistakes and that the American attitude has to change, but the way he worded it will mean that he alienates not just Bush but many Republican voters as well.

He’s honest though. He must know it’s a gigantic risk, but it seems to be what he believes, so he says it. That takes courage.

"Huckabee’s Foreign Policy Plans?" What plans? In fact, what the hell does Mike Huckabee know about foreign policy, anyway?  Comparing Huckabee with, say, John McCain on this issue reveals how little actual substance there is to the Huckabee candidacy. And the last time we elevated a Governor of Arkansas to the Preseidency, it didn’t exactly work out so great.   Anyone wanna give me three foreign policy triumphs of the Clinton Administration?  Ooooh, too hard.  Howz about one? Hoenstly, Mr. Huckabee is about as qualified for the presidency as is Mr. Obama. I.e., not very.
