Fred Thompson Becoming Passionate
First watch this video at the Jawa Report of Fred Thompson talking to his supporters after he finished third in Iowa. Then read this report at the Politico.
I’ve seldom seen anything as obviously slanted as that. I’m not sure what problem the Politico has with the former Senator, but it’s clear that the guys there want to make him look as bad as possible.
This was one hell of speech, in front of very passionate supporters. Nothing like what the Politico wants to make you believe. In fact, I’m convinced that if more people saw this video, support for Thompson would increase significantly.
Note that this isn’t the first time that the Politico has gone after Thompson either. As RedState points out, they published an article yesterday saying that he would drop out if he didn’t win 15% of the vote, but that’s not true (as we can say today).
Again, watch the video, he speaks in a very different tone than Politico would have you to believe and the crowd is far more enthusiastic as well.
Great one-liner (brought in a spirited, energetic manner), not in a dull way: “it looks like someone needs to carry a strong, consistent conservative message and it looks like it ought to be me!”
We have to remember that Iowa doesn’t exactly have a clear record when it comes to predicting the nominees of either party. Huckabee did well, yes, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll go on to win the nomination. At all. If, however, Romney loses in NH as well, but then to McCain, it means that Iowa has determined who won’t be the nominee, but that’s not the same as determining who will be the nominee.
Thompson did acceptable, if he keeps it up, he should do reasonably well in South Carolina. What he needs to do now is to present himself as energetic and passionate, much like he did yesterday night in the speech linked to above.
UPDATE: also be sure to read this post at Race42008, by Tommy Oliver.

The new trendsetting in news seems to be hit jobs done by not so newsworthy sources like politico and then reported over and over on networks like Fox. These blogs are a part of a new front in negative campaigning. Politico also tried to meet Fred Thompson’s good showing in the Iowa debate with articles like "Fred Lazy as Charged". Fred came in 3rd in Iowa despite the media hit jobs. Fox News and Politico are definitely attempting to spin Huckabee and trounce Fred-with a split conservative base I guess the end result is Giuliani wins!
I agree.. I am appalled at the blackout and dirty tricks Fred Thompson is receiving from the media.. Yesterday I was appalled to watch the Fox roundtable completely ignoring Thompson and touting McCain. It was so bad that at one point Fred says "oh umm.. yes technically Thompson is in third place but McCain blah blah blah.. " that was the only time in the night I heard them even mention his name.. After hearing enough of this BS I became so angry that I went and donated my hard earned cash to Fred’s campaign. People should realize that the candidate the media tries to spoonfeed is the polar opposite of the candidate you should be seriously considering.
I would like to add that I have seen many people calling into radio talk shows (Rush Limbaugh today) and even one lady that called into C-SPAN today on the Washington Journal mention the total blackout being applied to Fred. Rush Limbaugh’s brother David has come out in support for Fred Thompson and although Rush is not coming out in support for any one candidate he mentioned several times recently about there being at least one candidate that is a ‘consistent conservative’ which is the same phrase that Fred Thompson uses to describe himself.
When a lady called into complain to Rush Limbaugh about the blackout of Fred Rush stated something very telling, using his Socratic techniques he asked her: "Well what do you think that is?"… The answer is quite evident..
Correction… he asked "Well… why do you think that is ?"…
Well. Why?
Michael van der Galien: Your redstate link target is the same as the politico link target.
The problem people at "The Politico" have with Fred is that he’s a grown-up candidate who could actually make a positive difference in the White House if he is elected. Thomas Sowell said he has, "the best policy positions and the best political track record among the Republican candidates…" Granted, Sowell also said that he thinks Fred doesn’t make the best presentation of himself, but look at how Romney did after blowing all of that money on Iowa. Presentation isn’t everything. It has to be about substance, and God help us if we get any of the other candidates out there.
Monkey: fixed.
Sadly I think it’s about both, and with quite some people more about the first than about the latter.
If you are sick of this hack journalism by Politico.com visit http://www.StickItToPolitico.com and send them a message loud and clear! Pass it on…
Michael, thank you for writing this article and showing Politico for what they are. I am so sick of them and FOX. I heard more about Fred on CNN than the Fair & Balanced FOX. Fred finished third, not tied for third as the media is saying, apparently they don’t understand that more votes wins. Fred will do incredible in SC. Thanks again for the article exposing Politico.
If anyone wonders why Fred didn’t "catch on" as expected we can all clearly see a MSM spin blitz in offering personal attacks which have been proven wrong but, they did their damage with the uninformed.
In addition, these jerks at Politico come from the Washington Post…go figure.

It may be news to some, but modern "news", particularly political news, isn’t news so much as it’s entertainment. Hence if you have a snappy presentation filled with good one-liners and pick fights with your opponents, the press loves it. On the other hand, if you are a deep thinker and answer complicated questions with complete answers, the press just doesn’t know what to do with it and either ignores you, or worse, assumes that you "don’t have what it takes to run a good campaign" and will therefore lose. Bottom line, the press wants to run political campaigning like it was an American Idol contest.
I have been a Fred! supporter since it was the "draft Fred!" movement. It is true that the press will not give Fred! a fair break and will even try (especialy in the left-wing media) to torpedo him. This is a fact of life. We Fred! supporters need to accept this and do the hard work to support our candidate with the donations and on-the-ground support needed to overcome this obsticle. No one is going to give the nomination to Fred!, we as a group need to reach out and take it. We have the right candidate with the right message, we have to get his message out and give him the means to do so his self through dollars to his campaign.
Friday, at work one of my bosses asked. How I felt about my man(Fred) dropping out. I told him it was a lie, that Fred told the media at lest 13 different times that he wasn’t dropping out, that it was a polictical dirty trick release on the eve of the caucus to ruin his chances. We don’t know how many votes went to McCain because uninformed people thought that was what Thompson was going to do that, also. Fred and McCain are suppose to be friends so it was a believable lie. It would be nice if Fox started stealing their reporting from poligazette.com instead of politico.com, then at least they would be more accurate when they repeat someone elses story. I agreed with the comment that Fred needs to be more energetic in his presentation because so many people don’t take time to check the facts to read the substance of the issues. He needs to use this same energy in video during the debate on Fox, and he needs to go on Bill O’Reilly. I know O’Reilly’s a jerk but he appeals to a lot of people because he acts like a jerk. I donated to Fred again Friday and plan to continue until he’s elected.
It’s one thing to write slanted stories. Twice, though, the Politico has misquoted him in such a way that the misquote makes him look exactly the opposite of the way the correct quote would have.
They’ve not corrected either story.
