Romney Might Just As Well Drop Out
Remember that huge controversy that was supposed to break out today? Joe Gandelman published a post in which he quoted an e-mail from someone from “Revelation Press” (which was send, we then found out, to many other bloggers as well – I had received such an e-mail twice for instance) saying that today a book would be published that would destroy one person’s candidacy. Other blogs picked it up and the ball got rolling. Well, the press conference was today… and it’s indeed huge. I’m not sure how Romney can deal with this revelation about his past.
In 2004, John Kerry faced opposition from an unexpected quarter — his fellow Swift Boat veterans from
Vietnam. In 2008, it’s Mitt Romney’s turn to be “Swift-Boated” — but this time, instead of unsubstantiated innuendo, Romney is “Swift Boated” with a comprehensively-researched, solidly fact-based book — Mitt, Set Our People Free! Like Toto in Oz, this book tears away the curtain and reveals the truth behind the Mormon Church and its beliefs about the U.S. Presidency — and what that will mean to “President” Mitt Romney.
Now that’s impressive. I’m sure that everyone will run to the shops to buy this work of fiction and anti-Mormon bias.
Or not.
Man o man.
What a bunch of nonsense. It’s sad to think that the author actually spent a lot of time writing this book. And it’s even more sad that he found a publisher willing to publish it.
Obviously the title of this post and the first paragraph are meant sarcastically.
PS: it seems that there is something else going on with regards to push polls, we’ll see what we’ll hear about that in the coming weeks.
H/t reader Jen.

Sounds lame and reliant on the effects of repetition and hearsay like the Osama is a muslim meme. This push-poll thing is still hanging like a sword of Damocles though – I hope whomever instigated it will get badly singed for it.
I agree, but I think Mitt has had it for different reasons. He outspent Huckabee in Iowa 20:1 and still came in second. He outspent McCain in New Hampshire and is losing there. He has to hope that he wins in Michigan, or he’ll be staler than yesterday’s donuts. He’s spent a lot of his own money which means he’s not raising very much. McCain is a much stronger candidate overall, and it has nothing to do with Mormonism.
Amazing. Romney currently has the most delagates. He is doing well. He won Wyoming and there was almost no mention. It just amazes me that he cintinues to be attacked "personally" and it seems ok. However, he runs comparison ads and every one attacks him. What is wrong with our country?
From a marketing perspective the timing of the book’s release is good. At any other time it would go directly to the Bargain Basement. Now the only way Moody could be happier is if Romney had won Iowa.
I too believe that Romney will fade, although should he win the nomination he will certainly get my vote.
Next up on the scandal parade, Christian candidates agree to renounce Satan and all his works AND subordinate themselves to the will of another power!
Romney is the only candidate who can go the distance. Even if he were to come in second in New Hampshire he would still be the man to beat. He would have a the most delegates. With a first in Wyoming – where Huckabee and McCain did not even register enough to get a delegate, a second in Iowa – compared to a 4th place finish for McCain, and a second in New Hamphire where – Huckabee isn’t even trying to seriously compete, he is the man to beat. Romney’s 1st, 2nd, 2nd – Beats a McCain and Huckabee’s record of a 1st, 4th and a not even on the register any day. People attack Romney, because he is the man to Beat. As Huckabee says, you don’t kick a dead horse. Did you see the first NH debate. They all knew that Romney was far from dead. As if this were not enough, he has the money and organization to go the distance. The Huckabee should answer the question as to why he can’t fundraise. People put their money where their mouth is. He won Iowa simply because he had a built in network. In the other states he will need to build a network.
Ok, there are three possibilities regarding this Daryl Toor fellow who spammed this. (He lies about his background on his Web page, saying he worked for various big media outlets, none of which has any record of him.).
Just two possibilities: he is either a scumbag with no conscience whatsoever, he is a complete and utter failure, or, most likely he is some combination of the two. There really is no other possibility, is there?
What I am most enjoying about this is that his fate will always and forever be sealed by this incident. His name will always and forever be associated with what he did here, and he will never, ever be able to remove the taint. He pretty much has to stay stuck, where he already was, at the lowest levels of PR and "online marketing." His failure will only deepen now. And that’s exactly what he deserves.
John: there’s no doubt that he has just destroyed his career indeed. One wonders though how successful he was considering the fact that he took this book on.
Er, of course I meant to repeat *three* possibilities in that second paragraph.
Right, he was already a miserable failure (just have a look at attentiongroup.com – his site). I’m just saying that now, he has no hope at all of ever climbing out.
john,
God knows, here in America we don’t reward the consistenly wrong-minded.
LOL, that’s just the prelude to the real scandal- Giuliani (a Catholic) eats human flesh!
Don’t forget the blood-drinking, Christine.
I really cannot believe the trash people will spread about a religion. Are they not aware as "so called Christians" are actually sinning by professing false beliefs and accusations of another religion?
After reading the Reuters report, I can clearly see that this is yet another anti-mormon publication preaching the same false subjects on Latter Day Saints that have been roaming the internet for years.
For instance, the report asserts "Jesus said that man cannot serve two masters — but if Romney is elected President, he will have to serve two conflicting oaths….this Presidential Oath is in direct conflict with Romney’s sacred oath to his Mormon Church"
Hello?!?! Every Christian who follows the bible should know this – it’s called Matthew 6:24 or Luke 16:13 ("No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.") To put a twist on it and really make it sound like he’s got horns on his head is not only deceiving but it’s false. To boot, I recall during the YouTube debates that someone had asked the question of "Do you believe EVERY WORD of this book" – while holding up a Bible. (Personally, I think the same person behind that question is the same people behind this book being published) Just about everyone up there said they did – in fact, Huckabee really made it a point that he believed EVERY word. So, how come Huckabee isn’t getting the 10th degree on that?
Anyone who is pushing this hard with false objections is someone I don’t want as my President. When I find out who is behind this come mid-late January when the courts release which candidate is behind the the push-polling, I will be sure to not vote for that person – even if he/she was on my high-regard list. How can someone who can process this much hatred and split the nation on something such as religion be our president? What are we back in the 1940’s? Might I remind everyone that the US Constitution itself actually states that religion should not prevent someone from running for President? So in essence, the person pushing these lies is actually not following the US laws themselves.
Might I also remind others that Latter Day Saints (also known as Mormons) follow the 14 Articles of Faith – which can be found here:
http://www.lds.org/library/display/0,4945,106-1-2-1,FF.html
In them, it states: "12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." So yet another reason why this so called author who appears to not fully profess the truths of the faith is unbelievable. How can we believe to follow laws, rulers and presidents if what he claims is so true?
What is mind boggling to me is how Reuters published this other statement without actually validating the veracity of its comments: "In 2004, "Swift Boating" and "Rather-Gate" were actions based on "iffy" information. However, in 2008, this "Swift Boating" experience is based on rock-solid, well-sourced and absolutely accurate information".
If anyone had actually researched just one of the arguments of this book, they would have found out that it is indeed false. Let me explain. In the Reuters report, it also states "According to author Mike Moody, ‘One of the LDS Church’s basic tenets is a
prophecy from founder and First Prophet Joseph Smith that in the latter days, the U.S. Constitution will ‘hang by a thread as fine as silk fiber’ until a Mormon leader rides in on his White Horse to save the U.S. and the Constitution — then use his control of the United States to set up a world-wide theocracy, one based on the clearly unorthodox beliefs of the Church of Latter Day Saints.”
For the umpteenth million time – this is not a valid prophecy but was a rumor. In 1979, LDS Apostle Bruce R. McConkie dismissed the prophesy as a forgery. For anyone interested, do the research – it’s all over the internet and amazingly even though the church has stated it was not validated, you’ll still find people writing about it as if the church just recently released it.
The last quote I leave you with is the closing statements from one of the Reuters feeds… it states "Mitt — Set Our People Free! is a controversial book by a controversial author, written for those who support Romney — and those who fear him. Author Mike Moody, a twice-decorated US Army war hero and ten-year veteran TV business news editor and reporter, is also a maverick Republican who, four years ago, was the Nevada Coordinator of Republicans for Kerry."
Hmmm… "Nevada Coordinator of Republicans for Kerry" – sounds to me like he has a chip on his shoulder from the Kerry "swift-gate" charges…
Interesting that they write "controversial author". I can’t imagine defining this person in any other way but a bigoted liar.
ah… just as I suspected… the majority of anti-mormon literature comes from excommunicated members – taken from the author’s site: "Mike Moody was excommunicated from the Mormon Church for the "crime" of having a one-night affair, while single himself, with a single Mormon woman who was visiting Las Vegas from Washington DC. She later felt remorse for violating the harsh tenets of her religion (for drinking, buying and smoking cigarettes, and engaging in out-of-wedlock sex), and, as part of her repentance, she turned Mike into her Stake President in Washington. Mike was directed to participate in the Mormon Church’s internal "judicial" system, but chose to not go to the Bishop’s Court held in Las Vegas to "try" him, in part because all of the "judges" were also local political opponents who opposed Mike’s increasingly active role in local Republican politics. In his absence, he was "found guilty" of having sex outside of marriage with an unmarried woman, and was excommunicated."
go figure….
WHO IS THE BEST CANDIDATE? Religious bigotry is Live and Well! If you want the facts about the Mormon believes, go to the Mormon website. http://www.lds.orgDon‘t rely on these excommunicated mormons with skill view. Case in point, if you want to buy a Toyota, you wouldn’t go to the Ford dealership and get information about how good the Camry is. Reagan changed party and he worked out fine. Pro-life, pro-choice is not the most important issue facing this country. I don’t give a darn if he is a Mormon or a Jew. We need someone to win back the leading role in the world economy. Romney has the records of success to show for. He is a proven winner in both the private and public sectors. You need a successful economy to create jobs.
Some people (like Moody or is it Muddy?) leave the Church but just cannot leave it alone.
