Media Frenzy!
Earlier today I listened to PoliGazette co-blogger Rick Moran’s Blog Talk Radio Show, logically called “The Rick Moran Show,” and it truly was a great show (I know that he’s calling in through Skype, like me, but he doesn’t seem to have any quality problems).
Rick’s guests were Rich Baehr, political correspondent of the American Thinker, and Tom Lifson, Editor-in-Chief of the same website, who brought quite some knowledge about politics and journalism to the table. As said, it was an interesting show, you can listen to it below the fold. Some quotes and thoughts of my own:
When talking about Obama and the media Rich and Rick made some good points. Rich said that the media “annointed” Barack Obama “not only the likely nominee, but Saint-Pope-Martin Luther King-Abe Lincoln-all in one.” Adding that “walking on water was just the first act.” But the voters beg to differ.
Rick points out that it could very well be that many young voters stayed home because of the media frenzy. “I’ve never seen anything quite like it in my life,” he said. Rich agreed and said that many journalists seem to have great difficult “not getting swept up in this,” which explains why they went after Hillary as aggressive as they did.
And with regards to the national presidential elections? Rich Baehr explains that the battle between Clinton and Obama is good news for Republicans because both are at least somewhat vulnerable. I agree with that, and I think he’s also right when he says that McCain could do very well against any Democrat because of support for him among independents, but I think that an Obama-McCain race would be something Obama doesn’t have to look up to because, if he wins, he’ll have beaten someone with a long record already and he has Independents’ support. O, and McCain is old, not very passionate at all times, and a DC Insider. Obama isn’t. He’s young, energetic, and inspiring.
But Rich is certainly right when he says that the media story that the Democrats have 80% of taking the White House in 08 could very well be wrong. It’s much more complicated than that, and the Republican aren’t beaten yet. Heck, it’s only January.
Anyway, later in the show they talked about how Clinton could use people like Paul Begala: he works for 527s and organizes them now, Rich argues. It’s illegal for Begala to coordinate the efforts of a 527 and to work for Clinton at the same time, but he can legally coordinate 527s that go after Obama before teaming up with Clinton.
All the above is only a small part of the show: notes taken during the first hour or so, so you’re wise to listen to the show in its entirety. Rick isn’t just a great new co-blogger, he’s also a great BTR host.
And yes, we’re becoming increasingly active on Blog Talk Radio. Rick joined us, and has his own BTR show, Jason and I host one, and Kevin Sullivan will have a show soon as well. You can listen to Rick’s show of yesterday by clicking on the “play” icon below:
