Huckabee Strikes Back But He Ain’t No Negative Campaigner

“He’s got to get some better lines,” which is why Huckabee hopes for Thompson that the strike of Hollywood writers will come to an end soon.

Mike Huckabee, why not just being honest about: you’re not a fiscal conservative. Done. And if you ask why liberals hate you, it’s probably because you talk about your religion every other day. For instance:

Via Hot Air comes this:

[P]ro-Huckabee organizers say they are focusing their entire effort on turning out evangelical church goers. They plan to call every evangelical pastor in the state over the next few days. Those ministers can’t endorse any candidate from the pulpit — but they can tell their parishioners that “it’s their Christian duty,” to turn out on primary day, said Glenn. “And we know who they’ll be voting for.”

To help drive that message home, thousands of volunteers will be dropping leaflets and waving signs in church parking lots across Michigan this Sunday. Glenn says there will also be several news conferences across the state through the January 15 vote featuring groups of pastors announcing their personal support for Huckabee, an organized wave of callers into Michigan’s Christian radio stations, and phone trees targeting the state’s largest churches from within.

Their Christian duty huh? Yeah, that’s because Jesus was very clear about Church and State: they’re one. “Give to God that which is of the Emperor and to God that which is of God,” right?

Huckabee is still right of center on fiscal issues. But you have a race where everyone is blindingly looking for the "true conservative" that they think anyone who is a little moderate is "liberal". The Jack Kemp supply-side wing also is not the whole party, nor did the Republicans get in Congress on supply-side policies, but balanced budget policies. Have fun trying to find a "true believer", he’ll help lose the race for you. (Not that it matters for Huckabee, since in the general election liberals won’t like him.)
