Britney Spears to Convert to Islam

January 14th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

According to New of the World at least. Why publish this? Because, as Jane Hamsher puts it, it is “mildly more interesting and substantial than what [the] Democratic presidential race has become.”

The highly reliable, heh, website says that Britney is thinking about converting to Islam because her current boyfriend is a Muslim and she wants to marry him. His family isn’t too happy with a non-Muslim in the family: according to the same reliable website he has already been disowned by his family back home.

It would be interesting to see what the reaction of the public would be to a conversion to Islam from a well known figure like Britney Spears though. Would some parents tell their children that they’re not allowed to Britney’s songs anymore, or would most people say: couldn’t care less? I also mention this because an important part of her public image was that she was a good all-American Christian girl.

"I also mention this because an important part of her public image was that she was a good all-American Christian girl."

Yup, and it is the fault of all that sex-ed that this trait has become a shallow, easily adopted and empty image rather than something genuine that isn’t used in commercial interests.

The parents can’t be blamed. Condoms can.

Anyway, her muslim faith will probably be as genuine as her previous one. Unless, of course, her new relationship is so fulfilling that she actually makes an effort to allow herself to be happy and do her own thing.

Hmmm. Brit-Brit performing Oops I did it again, in a burka? I don’t see it selling or even getting an accompanying video.
