US To Iraqi Kurds: Do Something About PKK

February 27th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

My, my: “A top U.S. State Department official urged Iraqi Kurdish leaders to take responsibility against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Monday, because the PKK had its headquarters and main camps in Iraq’s Kurdish-controlled northern areas.” It’s about time, isn’t it?

Since the PKK takes refuge in Iraq, we would like to see a process where Kurdish leaders in Iraq take some responsibility to limit the activities of the PKK,” Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Nick Burns told the Council on Foreign Relations.

He also “reiterated a U.S. call for Turkey to improve ties with Iraqi Kurds” but his remarks “made it clear that the United States believed the Kurds were not doing enough to counter the PKK’s presence in northern Iraq.”

Meanwhile, the US continues to share “anti-PKK” intelligence with Turkey. As we now know, Turkey’s offensive has been made possible because of this sharing of intelligence.

It’s a significant development, because the US now seems to tell Iraqi Kurds that they, not Turkey, are responsible for Turkey’s operation. This is, of course, part of the Bush doctrine. It’s good to see that the US isn’t too hypocritical about this issue / idea.

US official foolishly ask iraqi Kurds to take responsibility for PKK as if PKK was in Kurdish cities and not in rural mountains outside control of KRG. the US have not given Kurds enough weapon and fire power to be able to fight PKK. iraq Kurds also shown their willingness to negotiate a surrender of the rebels provided Turkey will grant Kurdish rights that set by the EU to allow Turkey’s entry to the block.

it is Turkey that should take responsibility and solve Kurdish problem through democratic means and not through the war. US once again abandoning Kurds for economical interests with Turkey.

another example of a political prostitution.
