Chris Matthews
One wonders whether Chris Matthews truly understands that sexism isn’t a good thing. When talking about Hillary Clinton, he wanted to use the word “bitch.” Keith Olbermann quickly intervened and saved Matthews from himself. Chris: perhaps you should consider not commenting on any woman for a couple of weeks. And especially not Hillary Clinton. Can you imagine the outrage if someone would use the word “nigger” or “uncle Tom” to describe Obama?

This absolutely is sexist, and Matthews is a pig.
However…why is it ha ha funny when Tina Fey says it?
Kevin Sullivan: "However…why is it ha ha funny when Tina Fey says it?"
Because she’s a woman defending another woman.
see, Kevin,
I told you I can not stand all those gasbags.
And T.Russert is not much better, he is just is more careful in using the swear words..
Exactly. It’s a bit difficult for a woman to be a sexist in this regard. And she was being ironic, doesn’t have a sexist past, and so on, whereas Matthews, well, Matthews is something else all together.
Sorry, but that’s a nonsense answer. The word "bitch" is a crass and harmful word. For months and months we were scolded for insinuating that Hillary might be one. If you made a comment about Hillary Clinton’s "mood," well, you were clearly making a "cycle" reference. And more absurdity such as that.
Then, a woman turns it into a joke, and all of a sudden it’s ok. Hey, it was funny and cute. Great. But it’s outrageous to hide behind "irony" in this sense. Matthews was playing off of the Tina Fey joke. That was the joke.
"Because she’s a woman defending another woman" just doesn’t cut it.
I have watched and enjoyed Matthews for years, but have been shocked at his treatment of Sen Clinton for the duration of the campaign. Matthews refused at the get-go to treat her as a serious candidate for the presidency. He obsessed for 2 weeks about her gaffe on granting illegal immigrants driver’s licenses, yet said little about her almost perfect debate performances previous to that. He kept referring to the gaffe as the defining moment in the campaign-as though he was looking for the chink in her armor.
About that time, Matthews began to question daily how long it would take for Obama to overtake her in the polls, suggesting he needed a harsher attack to get the nomination.
MSNBC forced him to apologize once, after a nasty comment about how she only got her Senate seat because her husband cheated on her. Matthews also has made many references to her voice and laugh- her "screech" and "cackle" as he put it. Not much difference between that and what Sean Hannity would say.
In the meantime, he has treated Obama and McCain with reverence and respect. I don’t know if he’s a sexist , but he has made comments about female news commentators beauty on the air which seems inappropriate to do during their news reports. Because of his constant Hillary bashing, I no longer tune in unless its a primary day. I can hear that crap anytime on talk radio.
If it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, then it must be a chauvanist pig.
Ugh, what an ugly little man, and yet another demonstration that obvious sexism gets a wholly different treatment in society than obvious racism. How long do you think he’d have lasted on air if instead of calling Clinton’s supporters "castratos in the eunuch chorus" he’d had called Obama supporters "the Watermelon Jamboree"? He’d have been kicked off faster than you can say "Al Sharpton". Personally I find our hyper-sensitivity to anything that even carries the minimal hint of racism tiresome, but the double standard given to sexism is very irritating.
