More on Obama

April 18th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Watch the video, and longer ones; he didn’t just give Hillary the finger, he also ‘brushed the dirt’ of his shoulder (imitation of rappers) and, and this is insulting, he made the move that indicates that he takes the shit off his shoes (Clinton). So, he basically called Clinton ‘dirt,’ shit’ and gave her the finger.

That’s just insanely cool man! It’s like, we’ve got Jay-Z running for President of the most powerful country on earth! How cool is that?

Um, he did the dirt on shoulder sign, and later the shit on shoe sign. Watch the videos.

And racist? Ah yes, I am sure it is. But I’m like that. You know, KKK and all that. We, Obama critics, are all like that. We hate blacks. Especially ‘uppity blacks.’

    Didn’t you know that?

hahahahha yep, that’s it Sam. You see through me.

Now, head on over to the HuffPo, read the title and some more, and then the comments. And all of a sudden, my remark will make sense (without the "subtle racism")!

Don’t let that fool you though; it’s just that I hate those with a different skin color than my own. Like, blacks. Asians. People who are brown. Native Americans. Arabs. All of them.

And I thought I hid it so well!

Yeah, anyone who doesn’t think that hip hop or rapper cultural references are cool (esp when a presidential candidate makes them) is obviously a racist. <rolls eyes>

OK, Michael, are you being ironic or have your obsession with the GOP-appeaser Clinton made you jump the shark?

"GOP-appeaser Clinton"…..? Maybe there’s just too much sarcasm for me to make sense of here, but I never thought of politician’s making pop-culture references was a horribly bad thing.

And people are seriously considering him for President of the United States.  After 8 years of Bush, I didn’t think we could stoop any lower, but apparently I was mistaken.  Obama will never become President.

    Michael,

You are a smart man but your analysis of this is WAY off target.  First and foremost, "brushing the shoulders off" is hardly "rap thing".  In the American black community, that gesture has been used as far back as the 1900s by black entertainers and ministers.  If you get dandruff on your shoulders, you brush it off.  This gesture is used to brush off "problems" and come clean.  My Haitian grandfather (who’s 87 years old) did that gesture many times when I was growing up.  He used to say, "When it gets rough, you have to brush it off".  And we would do is shoulder brush.  You analysis shows that you know very little about American black culture.  I’m not holding that against you.  Heck I know very little about your country.  But you attack this issue headlong and sound slightly unhinged.  But I understand this political season is brimming with emotion.  I’ve heard the same and worse from Obama supporters so I call it even.

REALLY!!!!! My Great Grandfather use to do the same thing only he came from Austria…….I do not believe that any certain group of  people have the sole right to this gesture. I also believe that this gesture in itself is not that controversial, although more than  a little immature,  but rather the gestures combined give the true sense of meaning behind them.
Being a middle aged American Democrat I really don’t have the time for such nonsense and Mr. Obama should be ashamed of himself for acting so childish and unpresidential.

    Hi Bloomer.

I understand your point about it being "childish" and "immature" but it is entirely appropriate when aimed at his younger electorate.  You play to your audience.

    For the most part….  lol!

It Wasn’t the Questions, It Was the Answers! All of this nonsense on how bad the debate was really begs the obvious question. If BO had managed to answer any of the questions well, they would be singing his praises.  Both in the first-half on characteristic and the second-half on  policy issues questions, BO didn’t give a good answer on most of the questions.  He choked on Iran question, capital taxes, social security.  And yes, he choked on the flag pin, Wright, Ayers, Wood foundation.  So basically, he choked on both parts.Guess he needs more time, his processing speed is so slow. Kind of like the interminable time he took to cook up that race speech. When that 3 a.m. phone rings, he’ll have to put ‘em on hold, hang up or give ‘em the finger!

All of this strikes me as silly.  To be sure, my preference in political discourse is like wine- dry- William Buckleyesque and C-Span are fine with me.  But if Obama has the political talent to play both intellectual and pop culture- more power to him.  Is it really any different from Bill Clinton playing sax on late night TV?  Obama’s got a complete game- he ought to use it.

And "Get That Dirt off your Shoulder" is a great tune- like Linkin Park’s version too.

Perhaps as some of you pointed out, the brushing the shoulders gesture could have been overlooked, but that combined with the shoe wiping and middle finger bird flipping, come together as a total lack of respect for himself, the American people, his family, and his competition.  It was an immature move on Obama’s part. and if he has to try so hard to be a part of the "cool in-crowd of rap loving adolescents and twenty somethings", he does so at the price of losing credibility and respect of the rest of America.  NOBAMA FOR ME!  I want a REAL LEADER IN THE WHITE HOUSE–GO HILLARY!

Clearly, the kids here, just do not get it.  That is why they need to get off the internet, finish their homework, graduate from high school and college, and leave electing the next President to the ADULTS.
