Andrew Breitbart and Rob Long in the Caspian
Who would have thought this would ever happen; Andrew Breitbart (The Drudge Report and Breitbart.com) and Rob Long (National Review) standing in the Caspian Sea? Well the unimaginable happened today; both of them took off their socks, rolled up their jeans, and walked into the Caspian in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Now, in order to understand just how big of deal this is, you have to keep in mind that the beach here in Baku, Azerbaijan, isn’t exactly like Palm Beach. Firstly, there are only a few others swimming in the Caspian. Secondly, you have to keep in mind that a luxurious beach house in Azerbaijan does not exactly equal luxurious in the West. Thirdly, when you walk in to the Caspian the first thing you see are plastic bags lying on the beach, filled with who knows what. Fourthly, the sea isn’t blue, but black. That probably has something to do with the fifth difference which is that one sees oil platforms only a few kilometers away.
On top of all of that there’s also the inconvenience of having to clean your feet after you step out of the Caspian because dozens of little, black, strange animal-like beings are crawling up your feet pretending it’s their new home.
But the two courageous Americans did what had to be done when you’re in Baku; they got in there and played with the water. Especially Breitbart seems to enjoy ‘frollicking’ a lot. He bent down, put his hands and the water and threw it around, happily playing with the oil-polluted sea.
Of course most of you will wonder whether I have proof of this major event in US-Azerbaijan relationships. I do. Sadly, however, I can’t publish the photos right now; that’ll have to wait a couple of days.
This is Michael van der Galien, PoliGazette, Baku.
