I have heard that the Obama campaign has said they will respond with an ad of their own on the evening of McCain’s acceptance speech.  Wouldn’t it be nice if this started a tradition of exchanging gracious ads on the night of all presidential nominations from now on?
The thought kind of brings tears to my eyes.  After all the speeches and ink spent on ‘taking the high road’ in politics, maybe this could be a nice first step.
I thought is was a gracious, classy gesture and I hope the responding ad is just as honorable.

That would be nice, but I seriously doubt that the rage-fueled partisan hacks on both sides would ever allow such gestures to remain prominent for long.  For an excellent example of what I am talking about, check out Mullen’s column today over at the hilariously mis-named "Moderate" Voice.

Its my understanding that the congratulatory statement on nomination night is a common theme for basically all presidential elections. Not that the history makes McCain’s statement insincere, just nothing special in my mind.
