Enough is Enough

Jazz Shaw over at TMV, who got some flack (to put it generously) for posting a photo that questioned the story behind Trig Palin’s birth, pretty much rescinded today after some new photos came out.

However, not everybody is satisfied.

After having done the whole television production thing for seven years, I know how different somebody can look in different lighting, and how different angles of the camera can make somebody look different.  I was skeptical when I saw the photo, and now the story seems to be over.

Yet, not everybody is completely satisfied.  Conservative Barack Obama supporter Andrew Sullivan is calling for medical records to be released proving that Sarah Palin gave birth to Trig.

Seriously now, Andrew.  Are the new pictures not enough for you?  Seriously, this is starting to get as bad as those people practically asking for the governor of Hawaii to hold up Barack Obama’s birth certificate.  Yes, I’m exaggerating.  But it really is like that in some corners.

So, we get medical records.  Andrew says that’ll be enough for him, and maybe so.  Not everybody will be happy, though.  What will some liberals want next?  DNA samples?  Paternity tests?

Are the new pictures not enough to prove it?  Sure, Palin could supposedly have used a fat suit, but I doubt that.  If all the reports about McCain’s selection are true, Palin wasn’t even chosen until at least Wednesday night.

I think the case is closed.  Why some can’t accept that is beyond me.

Why shouldn’t she release her medical records? It would make the Liberal media look ridiculous. I say she should release them and then we can all laugh the whole way to President McCain’s election.

What’s worse is Sullivan’s hypocrisy. As Patterico points out, apparently he believes "privacy for me, but not for thee."

Why in the hell should anyone be forced to release medical records that contain private information, concerning information that is no one’s business? We have strong HIPPA laws to protect ordinary citizens’ privacy, yet all of a sudden there’s a demand that our politicians disclose everything, and produce whatever record certain members of the public decide is relevant- it’s absurd. And the irony meter is off the scale when you realize that the people who are demanding these disclosures are generally from the left, and have in many other cases (where it benefitted themselves personally or candidates on their side) argued vehemently for privacy.

I’m incensed by this development, and it goes way beyond the specific case of Palin (we also saw it in the demand for McCain’s medical records, and the fact that even the disclosures that he made which were far more extensive than any other candidate were still not considered enough by some.)  I think anyone who is still feeling that female politicians should be forced to open their medical records about their pregnancies or those of their children ought to consider whether or not you’d feel the same about pregnancies that were terminated. For instance, if it was rumored that Hillary Clinton or Chelsea Clinton had had one or more abortions, would you feel that they should be compelled to release all medical records to prove otherwise? Why or why not? If you do think that privacy should be afforded in that situation, then why does privacy only apply to aborted pregnancies rather than also to those that are carried to term?

Oh, I did mean to add though, that I have great regard for Obama’s response to this situation. He handled it with class and it would be great if all of his supporters would follow suit.

"… pretty much rescinded today after some new photos came out."

The only problem is that the photo – allegedly showing Sarah Palin pregnant with "Trig" – was taken in August, not April. This can be confirmed by checking the page source annotations and simply noting that the picture was accompanied by another one, showing Palin’s new Press Secretary … appointed in early August, not April.

So, the issue of whether Sarah or Bristol gave birth to "Trig" is still up-in-the-air. Making it doubly suspicious, a McCain campaign aide (anonymous, so he can’t be called a liar) is the only person to say Bristol is now "five-months pregnant". That assertion hasn’t come from anyone in the Palin family.

Topping it off, the McCain campaign has instructed Palin’s doctor to never talk to the press and, "Trig’s" birth certificate is still nowhere in evidence (not anywhere amid the Alaska on-line directory of all birth certificates).
