Teacher Used Muslim Student As Terrorist Example

September 13th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

CBS 2 Chicago reported on Friday that a teacher who used the only Moslem student in her class as an example of a terrorist is under severe fire. Although she is still a teacher, she has now been reassigned to another school, the family of the student are trying to make sure she loses her license to teach and the ’superintendent of Chicago Public Schools says lengthy suspension or possible termination is on the table.’

Saleh Choudhary, 13, was used as an example in a lesson on terrorism by his Chicago Public School teacher. CBS

It all happened in April of this year. Saleh Choudhary went to school, expecting nothing. He sat in the class when the teacher suddenly pointed him out in front of the entire class and, Christina Abraham, Council on American-Islamic Relations (not an organization with a wonderful image, and for good reason), explained: “She used the example of if Saleh were to go on to an airplane, put his backpack down and put two wires together and the plane were to blow up – and she didn’t make a point.”

His brother Mohammed said the event changed Saleh’s life drastically. First he came home, with tears in his eyes. Then his classmates and other kids at schools started teasing him. “Everybody started teasing him and calling him a terrorist after the comments were made by the teacher,” the Mohammed said.

The superintendent of Chicago Public Schools, Arne Duncan, said: “We have huge concerns about the conduct of the teacher.”

“From my standpoint, what happened is absolutely unacceptable and we’re looking at some very severe sanctions because of that behavior,” he added.

The teachers union, meanwhile, said it would do everything in its power to make sure that ‘its members’ rights to due process are fully enforced.’

    A typical example of stereotyping.

Children in US to be brought up with any prejudices at all, is also not very promising.

Hope the kid has gotten over it.

    @ Elif
Oh please! How is it stereotyping to use a muslim as an example of a terrorist? Do you actually not know who exactly is perpetuating terror around the world on a daily basis and who was responsible for 9.11.? The kid needs to get over it and Americans needs to quit pretending that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism.

I also seriously doubt this reporter gave a complete account or found out the teacher’s actual  intentions. Notice that she is not interviewed or quoted.  It is not the nature of today’s "journalists" to have the courage to "offend" muslims. It could very well be that she was demonstrating that the kid fits a stereotype that will make life difficult for him. His problem, not ours.

And to use CAIR’s version of this story is ludicrous. They are presently named as un-indicted co-conspirators in Hamas funding, with at least five former officials and board members already convicted and deported for aiding terrorists. Yeah, they are likely to tell the truth.

The kid’s life will be changed "drastically"?!? The teacher might face "very severe sanctions"?!? What absolute idiocy. How about the kid grow a pair and Americans pull their heads out of the sand?

We, here in the West, are being constantly told that ‘true’ Islam is a religion of peace and that the terrorist attacks happening around the world (over 11,000 since 9/11,  almost all claimed by people saying they’re Muslims) have nothing to do with Islam.  Sharia law is creeping into Western societies, but those people who speak about such things are ridiculed as being Islamophobic.

Fine.  Then lets demonstrate true Islamic law with the little boy and treat him like they do in countries that practice theocratic Islam.

    Stone him.

Now, that would be something the class would not soon forget, eh?

Stone him for what LarryG? It is because of people like you that shut themselves to realities that Islam’s name is so involved in terrorism. Muslims are not the inventors of terrorism and they won’t be the last to show it.
I am a Muslim and a Turk and I am proud of both. If you can show anything that associates Islam with terrorism from Qoran, I am here, come and show me. We are tired of being your scapegoats or your lame excuses to go after oil. Christianity is good, Islam is bad, how shallow is this? Do you know anything about Qoran? Do you know anything about teachings of Islam? Just because some power oriented lunetic dictator leaders call themselves Muslims, does not mean that Islam = terrorism.

I am a true representor of Islam and I condemn all actions of terrorist leaders. There is no excuse what so ever for taking innocent lives whether it is 9/11 or any other event or suicide bombing in isolation and yes Zee it is a very typical example of stereotyping. Thanks for proving me right by the way.
We are well aware that majority of terrorists are so called Muslims but you must also be aware that this terrorist group is a very minor group of all Muslims. As much as I respect anyone’s religion and do not try to label them with anything when Middle East is a chaos because of them, I expect the same respect from those people.

Elf, you protest too much. The muslim kid fits the "stereotype" of a terrorist because Muslims are the usual culprits – not nuns, not Amish, not Hindus, not American Indians, but Muslims. And, as I indicated, sharia law is as horrifying as any individual terrorist act.

If you can show anything that associates Islam with terrorism from Qoran, I am here, come and show me.

I attempted to do so, but apparently links are not permitted. The Koran is irrelevant, though it is replete with verses calling for jihad and you are disingenuous, at best, to suggest otherwise. What is relevant and has served to convince me is that those who commit atrocities in the name of Islam embrace the Koran and shed blood in the name of allah. My evidence is that honor killings, forced marriages, suppression of women and genital mutilation are daily occurrences in Islamic countries and, unfortunately, occur with increased frequency in the West. That children are taught that Jews and infidels are pigs and apes and there is no denying that. The internet is brimming with videos of the actual classes. Not Western made videos but videos proudly made and disseminated within islamic countries by clerics. Google MEMRI and deny what is depicted there. The Muslim Student Association has the following hadith on their website

The hadith (sacred teaching) reads as follows: “Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him….”

Sheik Saleh al-Lihedan in Saudi Arabia has recently stated that it is permissible under Islamic law to kill those television station owners who broadcast "seduction, obscenity and vulgarity". Sheikh Omar Bakri has called for the murder of Paul McCartney if he performs in Israel saying " If he values his life Mr. McCartney must not come to Israel. He will not be safe there. The sacrifice operatives will be waiting for him."

No,Elf, when it comes down to it, I really don’t care what the Koran says and doesn’t say. I care what is acted out in it’s name and in the name of Islam.

Christianity is good, Islam is bad, how shallow is this?

Though I never made that statement, I’d say it isn’t shallow, but, quite simply, true. Christianity embraces free will and individualism. Islam is submission and tribal. That’s all most folks need to know.

…I expect the same respect from those people.

You’ll only get the respect you deserve.

As a Turk, you’ve MUCH to be proud of.  As a Muslim you’ve much to be ashamed of.  I’m not talking about 1400 years of rape, oppression, murder, theft and lying (which would all be applicable)  – I’m talking about just in the past 10 years.  Oh, and don’t think I’m un-informed about how you treat your Christians in Turkey.  Whine while in western nations about how ‘nobody loves us’, but persecute and murder Christians in Turkey.  Hypocrite, clean up your own house before defiling mine with your false tears of injustice.
