Exploitation?
Am I insane or is there something deeply, deeply wrong with this? (Warning, may be disturbing)
Our non-European readers may be blessed enough to not know about the travesty of music and entertainment known as Eurovision and it’s demon child Eurovision Jr. It is an international “talent” contest that is supposed to pick the best amateur pop singer in Europe. Most contestants are laughably bad and the anual show maintains its popularity from people watching it for a laugh. It’s hellisly corny, but harmless.
Eurovision Jr. is a whole other quantity. It is the same concept but using usually very young children. Now many countries responsibly send kids to have a blast and sing cutsey songs and skip and play. Not so all of them, as you can clearly see from that awful video.
Those poor children, I’m embarrased to say, are Spanish, and what they were induced to do makes me rather ill, but sparked a question in my mind.
At what point does something go beyond the pale from distasteful to illegal? What kind of limits should be placed on such activities. To me, the video above is the sexual exploitation of children, and shows the manifest lack of decency of both networks and parents. Morality clearly dictates that networks should refuse to air this garbage and the Eurovision Jr. organizers should forbid it. But maybe there is a point when the law should step in. Do you believe it should be illegal to have children do this? If so, what are the limits?

I have a 9 year old daughter and I would NEVER have her do those moves in public or even in the privacy of her home. I find it very distasteful for an "Adult" to shake their bums like that let alone young girls… BUT, I do not believe what they were doing constitutes illegal or child abuse. I agree with you that it is cheap and vulgar but if some moronic parents feel it to be OK, then I do not believe it is the governments right to intervene in such cases…
That’s sick and disturbing.
