Biden And Foot in Mouth

Foot.in.mouth.Joe. Again.

During a campaign appearance Senator Joe Biden, Senator Barack Obama’s running mate, started railing against clean coal. He, he said, opposed it with all his heart.

When asked why he supports clean coal by a voter Biden said: “We’re not supporting clean coal. Listen, China is building two every week. Two dirty coal plants. And it’s polluting the United States. It’s causing people to die.”

The woman asked: “so you support solar power…” Biden: “Absolutely! Before anybody did… the first guy to support solar energy was me.”

He then continued to rail against China, saying “no coal plants here in America and if they’re gonna build them their, they should build them clean.”

The only problem? Obama’s campaign does support clean coal. So Biden was forced to, once again, retract his statements and to ‘nuance’ his words:

“Senator McCain knows that Senator Obama and Senator Biden support clean coal technology,” says Biden spokesman David Wade. “Senator Biden’s point is that China is building coal plants with outdated technology every day, and the United States needs to lead by developing clean coal technologies. The Obama-Biden comprehensive energy plan will invest $150 billion over 10 years in clean energy technologies, including incentives to accelerate private sector investment in commercial scale zero-carbon coal facilities. The Obama-Biden Department of Energy is committed to developing 5 ‘first-of-a-kind’ commercial scale coal-fired plants with carbon capture and sequestration here in the United States.”

It’s not the first time that Biden says something contradictory to Obama’s official policy. The ad, about which Biden was honest calling it “terrible,” was also an issue on which Biden broke with Obama. Of course, on this subject too Biden was forced to take back his words.

What this makes clear is that Biden is not as reliable as Obama hoped. He either doesn’t seem to know what their policies are supposed to be, or he doesn’t care. In either case, Biden probably causes Obama and his main advisers to take a painkiller every night before going to bed. These gaffes may very well hurt Obama’s chances in key battle groundstates such as Pennsylvania.

In case you’re wondering about the Obama campaign’s response:

This is yet another false attack from a dishonorable campaign. Senator McCain knows that Senator Obama and Senator Biden support clean coal technology. Senator Biden’s point is that China is building coal plants with outdated technology every day, and the United States needs to lead by developing clean coal technologies.

The truly strange thing about the Obama campaign is that it thinks it can get away with such obvious lies and distortions. They’re basically telling us: “those lying eyes! You did not see what you think you saw.”

What a farce.

LOL, clearly that dishonorable McCain campaign should assume that Biden doesn’t actually mean what he says. How dare they insinuate otherwise!

    “Joe Biden makes wonderful speeches,
Where he got them he tends to omit,
His foot’s in his mouth very often,
And I’m sure that it must taste like…
Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you’ll always look keen.”
