On Obama, the Media, and Bias
In response to an earlier article about the McCain campaign accusing the New York Times and Politico of being “in the tank” for Obama, a reader wrote:
Why isn’t the Obama campaign whining about the bias and lies of NRO?
Our very own managing editor responded quite well:
Because the Obama campaign doesn’t need to when they have the biggest megaphones in the media (the broadcast networks and the NYT) already in the tank.
Another reader then added:
And what’s worse, Jason, is that even though you’re right that Obama doesn’t need to whine, he still is doing so (and engaging in character assasination of NRO/WSJ contributor Stanley Kurtz and David Freddoso.) Pretty pathetic when you’ve got the major players in the media on your side and you still can’t handle any criticism from those that refuse to act as an arm of your campaign.
The above sums my view up quite well. Obama shouldn’t complain too much, because the media are in the tank for him. That’s why he’s not complaining about some news sources that are biased against him.
Secondly, most of those news sources do not pretend to be without bias. They can, like Jason also did in another comment, claim to report things fairly and accurately, but not ‘without bias.’ This unlike both the NYT and Politico.
And then, even though he’s treated very kindly by most members of the media, Obama et al. still find it necessary to attack those rare voices that express some concern about the direction of Obama’s campaign and about Obama himself. Those people are truly being destroyed by a character assassination machine with an effectiveness seldom seen before.

Yup, and wait until he’s POTUS. The groundwork has already been laid. You’re either a racist or batshit crazy for daring to criticize The One. I’m telling you, Americans are gonna get a severe case of buyer’s remorse. It took Bush 6 years. I’m guessing it’s gonna take much less time with Obama. In fact, he may be, unintentionally, the best thing to happen to both conservatives and the GOP in the mid to long term.
He is basically the liberal version of Bush 2000, only he’s got the media firmly on his side, which is even more frightening. No checks or balances. And the challenges are much greater today than they were 8 years ago. And this man is going to be POTUS. Americans got what they deserved with Bush and they’ll get what they deserve with this clown.
I have never seen such clear bias as I have seen in this election. The media as we know it has lost so much credibility and raitings. That is why Fox News was (believe it or not) rated in a study done by the political science team at UCLA as the most centrist news channel and lately their numbers have been up to 4X the viewers than CNN and MSNBC. Fox News may seem tilted to the right, but that is only because the rest are so far left.
