Lighthouse Case Alive and Well

October 11th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

My Turkish home newspaper away from home PoliGazette, Turkish Daily News reported on Saturday that the country’s ‘Interior Ministry probes further into the Deniz Feneri (Lighthouse) Foundation, a receiver of donations embezzled in Germany. ‘

‘The former president of the Deniz Feneri Foundation, which has no legal connections with German charity Lighthouse e.V., and Kanal 7 lawyer Yusuf Atalay worked together with Şentürk Uzun, chief of the Interior Ministry unit responsible for monitoring foundations’ activities, in the International Foundation for Development and Support of Civil Society, or USİDER. Atalay is the USİDER general director and Uzun is the general secretary,’ according to TDN.

Additionally, ‘the Social Democrat Foundations’ Association, or DSDF, in the Netherlands submitted six questions to the Dutch justice and interior ministries, on the donations Lighthouse e.V. collected with Kanal 7 International in Rotterdam. DSDF also sent a letter to the Dutch tax administration to ask whether the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, deputy leader Şaban Dişli paid taxes on the $1 million he claimed to have earned in Rotterdam.’

The answer to that question is probably “no, we thought officials working for the Islamist AK Parti did not have to pay taxes?”

The more Turkish investigators and journalists look into “Lighthouse E.V.,” the more one gets the impression that some highly influential Turks were involved in the scandal, which could very well be why Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan tried to bully critical journalists into focusing on other issues instead of this major corruption scandal.

Exist question: is Barack Obama America’s Erdogan? After all, both men ran (run) on a platform of ‘change,’ of bringing an end to corruption to the capital, but seem to be connected to some very questionable characters.

Yes, Barack Obama is definitely America’s Erdogan. I’m hearing the same similarity being voiced by people who know both men well :) ))) The populism, charisma, running on a platform of change but the reality being nothing but a sham of shady and lucrative deals, politics of identity and victimization while propogating a sense of being disadvantaged or discriminated against. Etc, etc… Oh, it won’t be fun.

Hey, Barack Obama ALSO threatens opposing voices with lawsuits while stifling their freedom of speech. Incredibly like Erdogan! I guess certain politicans are a lot more similar than we think.
