Palin Met with Boos At Flyers Game
When Republicans boo at the very mention of Barack Obama, the mainstream media, and especially the New York Times, lambast Republicans and John McCain for bringing hatred into politics. But when the same happens with Palin during a hockey match, the NYT gloats from happiness that Palin was booed. Anyone else noticing a double standard?
Yep. O here too. And here. And here.
The New York Times knows no shame when it comes to this year’s elections. We knew that already. But what matters even worse is… well, just watch the video of the match:
Hmm, for a ‘deafening sound’ of boos, there were relatively few fans booing, weren’t there? It came across to me as if there were some passionate Obama supporters who were then quickly overcheered by either moderates or people who do support the Republican ticket. The cheering was louder than the booing.
But that, of course, is not what the NYT wants you to know. After all, a hockey crowd cheering Palin proves her point that she is a, wait for it, hockey mom. The NYT does everything in its power to tear down her image, so it must destroy the image of her being a hockey mom, liked by ‘John Doe.’
The most fascinating aspect of the coverage at the NYT is that it makes one wonder whether they take themselves serious, or whether they understand that the rest of the world laughs at them. There is seriously no person working for big news outlets who take the NYT serious at this moment. Trust me, I talked to them.

"When Republicans boo at the very mention of Barack Obama, the mainstream media, and especially the New York Times, lambast Republicans and John McCain for bringing hatred into politics."
That’s… That’s… You know… You DO know that it wasn’t the booing that really got them upset in the first place… Right? I mean, right?
"But when the same happens with Palin during a hockey match, the NYT gloats from happiness that Palin was booed. Anyone else noticing a double standard?"
I can’t hear her being called a terrorist or an arab… Right? I mean… RIGHT?!
"But that, of course, is not what the NYT wants you to know. After all, a hockey crowd cheering Palin proves her point that she is a, wait for it, hockey mom."
"This well-known guy Michael has us figured out, Che!!"
"What say, Trotsky? Has he seen through our last-bid attempt to make the otherwise unassailable Palin look bad by trying to overstate the amount of booing she got at a low-key event?!"
"Afraid so… And we were so brazen and shameless about our cunning attempt to ruin her image as a well-liked down-to-earth pol – you know, that aspect of her persona that is giving McCain such luck among independents and uncommiteds…"
"Curses, foiled again!!!"
"And he links to these four very well-known and respected centrist blogs who are now busy sneering at us and convincing themselves that Palin is getting a harsh deal from the media!"
"AAAH NOO we’re melting we’re meeeeltiiiing…"
Kaspar rather colorfully makes the correct point, Michael. As far as I can tell, "Boos" aren’t being reported as problems (or rather, no more so than any other rally reporting would do). It’s the bizarre "terrorist!" "traitor" "Arab" stuff.
Spinning it this way is pretty weak tea.
And the booing of Palin at the Flyers game (and there does seem to have been a fair amount of booing when she was announced) is only news, I think, because the spin has been that, as a Hockey Mom, she is somehow representative of a whole group of people. That assumption was about as safe as the "all NASCAR followers are Repubican rednecks" garbage.
I think they only stopped booing because her daughter showed up, which is pretty basic decency. But they cheered when she dropped the puck outside of the correct spot between the hockey sticks… Whoah boy.
It’s incredibly sad. She is told to play right along with whatever new tactic the McCain campaign pulls out of the yellowed pages of the big book of obsolete and non-constructive campaigning, and she just obeys. She was out of her league even when she was mayor, and it just got worse when she became governor.
