Report: McCain, Palin at Odds
A report in the British newspaper the Sunday Times claims that Sarah Palin and John McCain are at odds with each other over what strategy to pursue to beat Barack Obama. According to the report, Palin advocated taking the gloves off weeks ago, from the very moment she became McCain’s running mate, while McCain top strategists tell him he should ‘lose with honor’ (if it comes to that), meaning that he should not go after Obama.
The chief strategist is Mark Salter, and he tells McCain time and again that if he loses, he should do so “with honor” and not “conduct a campaign that would be out of character.”
The most interesting part of Salter’s view is that McCain has already been treated like a dog by the MSM and the Obama campaign and that they have already convinced a large part of the American electorate that he behaved dishonorable. In other words, what these people fail to understand is that the only way McCain will not be depicted as a ‘dishonorable’ politician is if he stops criticizing Obama completely, goes home to Arizona, and waits until Obama beats him in a landslide never seen before.
Palin agrees, according to the report, and has constantly said she believes the gloves should be taken off. When McCain and his staff decided to put the gloves back on, Palin continued her attack on Obama.
The reason for this is two-fold, according to the report at least:
1. She actually wants to win. McCain doesn’t. He wants to play it ‘honorably,’ whatever the heck that means, and seems to campaign with the idea of ‘losing honorably.’ That’s not the attitude of a person who wants to win. Such a person does not even think about the option of losing.
2. Palin is trying to set herself up for a big political future, also in Washington, D.C., perhaps even a run for president in 2012.
Frankly,I believe that it makes a lot of sense. Palin is a fighter, McCain is a man destined to lose in politics. He’s, simply, not someone with a winner mentality. He has a loser mentality.

I don’t believe that. He’s a warrior at heart, and it shows…a lot. Reverting your strategy isn’t going for the lose. It’s recognizing that it may not be working.
If he can make a case for his economic plans versus Obama’s, he may still have a chance.
This is the story people need to focus on – Palin’s terrorist ties with Iran… http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/10/07/palins_unamerican http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eniG9l_7its
No offense intended but Palin doesn’t have a chance to be President in any cycle. Her tremendous lack of intelligence as displayed in her non-scripted interviews and her responses at the VP debate show a person totally out of their league intellectually.
No one in the right mind would trust the government of the US to such a person. The far right base she is playing to is not nearly enough to clear an election and frankly I feel confident that she would implode under the rigorous scrutiny that a Presendtial vetting requires. Sarah Palin is this year’s oddity. That’s all.
I am sorry to say but i think McCain is playing to lose this is not the way to attack this. Deserting your party and the people of America.
Michael – I don’t see that ‘fighter mentality’. Not at all.
History is one of mans best ways to find direction. Benjamin Franklin more than anyone invented the idea of the American nation. Was more of a Maverick than Mcain has ever been. Franklin is credited as being foundational to the roots of American values and character. The reason I mention him is he felt that this fight for freedom was for the young and hardy and felt his role was to guide and help this country grow. All this Sinicism by the McCain campaign has created, seems to look more and more like a Hitler rally than a Presidential debate. NO INCOMBENT DURING ECONOMIC CRISES HAS EVER WON. Let say McCain wins what kind of message do you think that sends across the world of our country. They believe in all men are created equal. At least George JR did with the country as he did with his business and life as he did with the country.(SHAME ON US) I know John McCain is a great man and has done great things throughout his life for our country but if winning for him is loosing for our country what will be the final memory of that once great man? (SHAME ON YOU)
McCain realizes he went too far (i.e. he went so far any gain is offset by the balking of people paying attention), Palin realized she is only suitable as a yapping little pitbull.
Palin is a fighter The word you’re looking isn’t fighter, although it also begins with an f: fascist. And if you want to run that deranged harridan in ‘12, please go for it. Given the depth of the economic mess Obama will inherit, and the time it will take to work our way out of it, having the GOP go completely balls out cuckoo clock insane in the next election could be very helpful.

Oh stop throwing the fascist label around like that. Yes, Palin is dangerously close to being a christianist and is very unpleasant whether you are left-wing or not, but those who defend her line-toeing and culture warfare because they want to believe that the GOP doesn’t deserve the flak it is getting will jump at your comment and go “SEE Palin ISN’T that bad – they are just mean partisans who are mean and exaggerate because they are meeeeaaaaan!”
I would be inclined to respect McCain as a human if he won or lost the election with dignity. Palin is absolutely the worst kind of politician- full of ambition, no insightin the ng field she has chosen, limited overall intelligence and a lack of understanding of how world politics actually functions. Forher to have the slightest hope of running for president someday is an insult to our system. She calls herself an outsider, but dang-nambit, that fact doesnt make her any different than the majority of voters. The question (one of many questions she cannot answer) is: What on earth makes her think she has an capacity to run for any politician office? Being ambitious alone, I am sorry, is not a good enough reason any longer. McCain, for all his faults, appears to be riding the tiger, afraid to get off yet afraid to stay on. Palin is not only leading him in the wrong direction but when he finally arrives in defeat he will have lost his self-respect.
A VP who seems more focused on 2012 and who comes with a fre case of abusing public trust. If McCain runs a country as well as he vets he would make Carter look like Lincoln.
He will lose, but not because he is not a fighter. He is a fighter. However, his campaign has no message. No real focus. Being a maverick is not enough to run a country. Being maverick with clear message is. I listened to CNN and other news that invited Republicans to represent John Maccain. When asked, which policies Maccain offers differently from Grorge Bush, they ALL said “climate change”. Though, that is good, but that is not good enough. Look at what concerns people the most. It is STILL economy, STUPID!!!!
Sarah Palin is totally true to her beliefs and instincts. It is ashame they are so totally wrong. She is a disgrace to the USA.
By all of her statements in trying to stir up crowds at rallies and campaigns with hateful lies and vindictive comments against Obama, she has revealed herself to be the epitome of the typical USA Southern or MidWestern undereducated, ignorant, loud-mouthed opinionated gun totting red-neck Bible-thumper .
Most Americans are not like her or her people. We do not share her lunatic views. Do not judge average USA citizens by the antics of a right-wing fanatic like Sarah Palin and her friends.
Palin is in my opinion quite simply an insult to the American voters. I feel insulted that Mcain would take the chance that she becomes a heart beat away from the oval office. I feel more insulted by people who could vote for this ticket.
I have supported Obama for more than 18 months. I came to that decision after reading Audacity of Hope, his second book. My reasoning is quite simple. After 8 years of an Alfred E. Newman clone in the whitehouse, I want the country run by someone with a brain. The book convinced me that Obama is quite smart.
Palin on the other hand…..
Mr. Takemitsu, I dislike Palin too but don’t resort to insulting stereotypes to describe her. First and foremost it is bad for the culture of discourse we all share and secondly it hurts your case.
This doesnt really make sense, not totally. Palin would be better off (if she wants to run in 2012) if McCain loses. If McCain wins, she will be tied to him for 4 or more years and may not be as good a candidate then. After 4 years of Obama (high taxes, etc…) alot of the country may want change (conservatives definitely will) and that’d be the perfect atmosphere and time for her to run.
Sarah Palin as future presidential candidate?! Now I’ll definitely have nightmares tonight.
What is it with you elitists? If a candidate doesn’t speak washington liberal BS. then they are dangerous and stupid. I guess that all you want to hear is some one like Biden who doesn’t have an origional thought in his little brain. Obama has never had to make a payroll or make ends meet in the private sector. But he is our savior in the economy?? None of the three male candidates have ever had to make do on their ability to earn a living except for tax payers dollars. I guess if you are supportive of Abortion, Socialized medicine, wealth transfer and welfare for people that can work you don’t like Governor Palin. Just because the mainstream media lionizes Obama and calls him the Messiah, he hasn’t accomplished anything in his 47 years other than writing a book and using questionable people to further his ambitions. If you think that socialism is so great why is it that we have to guard our borders to keep people out. I don’ see an over abundance of people trying to go from here to the socialist countries. I read a lot of blogs and I can see why Obama is so popular with you socialists is that you don’t have the intelligence of an omeoba.
It’s time for each US citizen to receive bail out tax free money. Congress can send each of te 330M US citizens 1 million tax free dollars. we can buy houses, cars, stocks and bail out this enconomic mess in 3 days. write your congressmen and ask for / demand your fair share of this bail out pie.
Give each american citizen 1 MILLION TAX FREE DOLLARS to bail us out. Congress owes the taxpayers and citizens 1 Million dollars each before the election.
Anyone who believes Sarah Palin is unintelligent is in for a very rude awakening. She handled herself very well in the debate. Anyone who does not think so didn’t see the debate or is blinded by ideology.
