The Newest Victim of the GOP: Gov. Charlie Crist
You know it’s getting bad when people who are still supporting Senator McCain’s bid for the presidency are now coming under fire. Now Florida Governor Charlie Crist is facing the heat. In Crist’s case, it’s because he made a comment during an interview that perhaps didn’t come out quite right. In the interview he says he committed to helping McCain win the election, but he gave one answer that inferred he doesn’t think all is well:
I asked Crist if he thought Palin was going to lure undecided voters to the ticket.
“I think we both know the answer to that,” he said. “But there’s no question she fired up the base.”
For sure, it is a little odd for a McCain surrogate to say such a thing. Still, you know by now what’s coming next, right? John Miller for New Republic Online’s The Corner in an entry called “Sore Loserman“:
Could his praise of Palin be any fainter?

Could his praise of Palin be any fainter?
“Under fire”? Really?
No one really expected Charlie Crist to praise Pailin much at all. He was one of the favorites to be McCain’s running mate considering that he almost single-handedly delivered Florida during the primaries (which, as you recall, pretty much won the nomination for him). His lack of enthusiasm deserves to be pointed out, coming as it does from a position of sour grapes.
Also, “The Corner” is not part The New Republic but of National Review.
He’s only stating the truth- which is that Palin turns off moderates and independents while solidifying the base for McCain. I guess the campaign thought that McCain would attract the former, while allowing Palin to get the conservative vote out. Its clearly not working-because Americans are longing for a concilliatory message- not a divisive one.
Political in-fighting? I’m shocked, shocked I say! Will get the Clinton’s on this right away! (I’ve also got a call out to Jesse Jackson)
Oh PS They’re all part of the GOP so I’m not sure I can call then victims of themselves.
