More than 26 Million Watch Obama Infomercial – Watch It
The special 30-minute infomercial by Senator Barack Obama aired on several networks yesterday attracted a public of more than 26 million. That is a staggering amount; for comparison stake, “Sunday Night Live” had its highest rating two weekends ago, when Governor Sarah Palin appeared on the show. In total, 14 million people saw the show live, which is almost twice as little as those who saw the Obama infomercial.
The infomercial was aired on CBS, NBC and Fox.
Although many expected to see Obama speak directly to the nation, in a new and creative way, the infomercial was exactly that: an infomercial. It was quite similar to the ads we have seen all year long from the Obama campaign, although this one was 29 minutes longer.
Meanwhile, it is not clear whether the high ratings will result in more votes for Obama and his running mate Senator Joe Biden. Some critics already said before the infomercial aired that he could actually hurt his own chances by reminding voters of the incredible amount of money he raised, making politics even more expensive. The more expensive campaigning becomes, the more likely it is that ‘normal Americans’ will not be able to compete in elections, and the more likely it is that those with money will buy influence, these critics argued.
