Report from McCain Headquarters: Momentum with McCain
The quite reliable James Pethokoukis reports that a reliable source over at McCain Headquarters told him the campaign believes that the momentum is with John McCain, with the far majority of last-minute deciders casting their vote for the Republican nominee.
The source said they all believe that it is “going to be a long night, but that they are going to win.”
Pethokoukis also notes that the stock markets are surging, giving him the impression that investors believe that McCain actually as a shot.
John McCain himself went to Colorado, a key battleground state, and he too seemed very energetic and hopeful. Barack Obama appears tired, exhausted even, but McCain gives me the impression as if he is having the time of his life. The crowd in Colorado was gigantic, it seemed to me, and passionately pro-McCain.
“We wil bring real change” to Washington, D.C. McCain said. “We will win,” he went on to say. “The pundits don’t know it yet, but the Mac is back!”
The crowd responded enthusiastically.
“Don’t give up hope, be strong, have courage and be strong. Fight for America… Fight to get our economy” out of trouble, “fight for our children’s future, fight for justice and opportunity for all,” McCain said. “Stand up, stand up and fight… America is worth fighting for.”
“We never quit, we never give up…” Americans don’t let history put them down, “we make history” the highly passionate – I haven’t seen him this passionate in this entire campaign – McCain told the equally passionate crowd which was clearly “fired up and ready to go.”
Whatever the case, if you haven’t voted yet, do so now. There is no excuse to stay home today. This is the only day on which you can let politicians know what you want to happen, what you believe. Go to those booths, and vote. Your vote could be decisive. Use your vote.

I wouldn’t put too much credence in the internal numbers of either campaign because neither can be trusted to not be spun out of control. What would the McCain campaign say, if not “We have momentum, we can still win this!”. Instead should they say “It’s not looking good”? That would only dishearten their supporters and push them not to vote.
It COULD be true, but it could just as easily (if not more) be spin. Understandable spin, but spin nonetheless.
