Obama Considering Controversial Figure for Attorney General
It was reported late Sunday evening that president-elect Barack Obama considers picking Jamie Gorelick as his Attorney General.
Gorelick is a controversial figure. Shortly after the report was published, conservative bloggers responded angrily, calling on the Republican minority in Congress to do everything in their power to prevent Gorelick from becoming the country’s Attorney General. If necessary, the filibuster should be used, these bloggers say.
The reason for their aggressive response is that Gorelick is considered the woman who erected the wall between the Department of Justice and FBI counterintelligence agents. She is the one ‘credited’ for separating domestic and foreign intelligence in such a way that the two were considered completely different branches, even though they sometimes overlap. As they did in September 2001.
This wall is considered to be one of the main reasons for the intelligence failure leading up to 9/11/01. Nominating her would undoubtedly Republican revolt in Congress, and it would open Obama to the charge of being soft on national security.
Gorelick is probably not the best choice. Obama would be wise to pick someone else, preferably someone who is not partially blamed for creating the circumstances in which terrorists could take down the World Trade Center and target the Pentagon seven years ago.

Sometimes I think (but wonder if it’s just wishful thinking) that people float names out who are obviously unacceptable, just to make their other choices (and their final appointee) seem more palatable.
I hope that’s the case here.
sounds like the West Wing tv series – all over again CS
Really? I don’t watch the show but I guess it wouldn’t surprise me if they came up with the same scenario that I’m imagining.
Obama is not going to blow his presidency by picking the nasty Jamie Gorelock, who has so much heavy baggage it would take a long train to bring it all into a DOJ-O.(DC)
Gorelock is so incompetent it is amazing all the P R she generates to hype her prospects, as if some promoter–a self promoter at that.
She is a walking disaster.
Her wall memos, her catering to Ken Starr follies, her Rocketgate -China scandals, the list is so long, Obama is not going to ruin his Presidency by putting this hack, some warmed over Clinton DOJ hash into an AG position.
Recall, his race; CHANGE.
Gorelick is not chnage, it is putting a pickup in reverse and slamming it into the garage.
How do these nutty rumors start on Gorelick etc ?????
Must be Gorelick putting out some faxes….
It an’t gona happen.
Believe me…..Obama knows what the word change means.
It don’t include Gorelick…
