Barack Obama’s Stepmother Shares Her Story
Barack Obama’s stepmother, the woman who married to Barack Obama Sr., decided to wait until after the presidential election in the United States before sharing her lifestory and then specifically how she met the president-elect’s father, and what kind of man he was.
She described him as a man who loved the good things in life and who loved her dearly. Nonetheless, he was a true women’s man.
Speaking to The Standard newspaper Grace Keziah Obama, 67, explained she met the soon-to-be 44th president of the United States at a village dance party which lasted until deep in the night.
Kezia Obama said Obama Sr. was so charismatic and handsome that she could not resist his advances. She was 16-years old when she fall in love with him.
“During the party he asked me to dance and I couldn’t turn him down. He picked me out from several girls. A few days later, I married him,” Keziah said. “He paid 14 cows as a dowry, which were delivered in two batches. This was because he loved me so greatly.”
Kezia went on to say that she met Senator Barack Obama, her stepson as it were, for the first time in 1988. Ever since, the two have stayed in contact.
“When I look at my stepson, he reminds me of his father. They share very many characteristics. Like father, like son, I would say,” she said. “He was forthright and loved the truth. This is what I’m seeing in his son.”
“I never had a dull moment with him. He liked fun and loved good things. Which is why I wasn’t surprised when I heard that he had married a second wife in the U.S.”
When Barack Hussein Obama Sr. went abroad, he found another woman he fell in love with and married her. The two had a son, Barack Hussein Obama Jr. Despite his second marriage, Kezia said she continued to love him.
“”He used to send me gifts, money and clothes through the post office. Many people envied me,” she said. “He returned to Kenya at the end of 1964 and we moved to Shauri Moyo estate in Nairobi.” When he moved back, Kezia gave birth to two more sons.
Barack Obama Sr. died in 1984 in Nairobi. After, Kezia life changed dramatically she said.
Kezia’s eldest son, Malik Obama, is 50-years old and in regular contact with his stepbrother Barack Obama Jr. “The last time I spoke with him was a few hours before the election. He was upbeat and assured me that he would win,” Malik told reporters.
“I represented our late father at Barack’s wedding when he married Michelle in 1992. It was a wonderful occasion,” he went on to say.
Malik, Barack Obama’s stepbrother, went on to say that he and the family are thrilled with Obama’s victory, which has given them much respect in Kenya.
