Weblog Awards

December 30th, 2008 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Last year, PoliGazette was lucky enough to be nominated for Best European Blog (non-UK) Weblog Award. We finished second (I believe). We gave it a try, fell a little short, but performed quite well.

This year, like every year since 2004, the Weblog Awards are organized once again. Although we are not nominated (since when are our readers so lazy that they do not nominate us for an award?) we do encourage you to vote for your favorite blogs.

As every other year, I’ll endorse some blogs, in certain categories. If you agree with my endorsement consider taking the time to vote (it takes a few seconds).

The finalists, in all the categories, can be found here. I endorse the following blogs in the following categories:

Best Blog: Hot Air – if you’ve got Ed Morrissey, you should win this award.

Best Individual Blogger – Jules Crittenden (I endorse him but will not vote for him – why? It’s complicated)

Best Humor Blog – Jon Swift (the funniest conservative in the blogosphere)

Best Liberal Blog – Taylor Marsh

Best Conservative Blog – Right Wing Nut House or Small Dead Animals

Best European Blog – RennyBA’s Terella (was nominated last year, very sympathetic Norwegian fellow)

Best Middle East or Africa Blog – Michael J. Totten (hands down the best and not just in this category. He’s also one of the kindest bloggers around; I had the pleasure to meet him this summer in Azerbaijan. He became a friend instantly. If you vote for only one blog, vote for Michael)

Best Major Blog – Several good contenders. I’m going for Outside The Beltway or The Moderate Voice

Best Very Large Blog – Ross Douthat

That is it; that is my list. I also wanted to endorse Small Dead Animals for Best Canadian Blog – Kate won this award several times in a row – but she is not nominated this year for this category (probably because she told the organizers she did not want to participate) now she’ll have to do with being co-endorsed for Best Conservative Blog (which will be difficult to win for her considering that she’s up against U.S. blogs).

PoliGazette Comments Policy

PoliGazette encourages comments from all viewpoints, especially those that disagree. Comments submitted must, however, adhere to the following standards. Comments that violate these standards may be edited or deleted without notice at the sole discretion of the editors. Commenters who repeatedly or egregiously violate these standards or who attempt to argue publicly with editors regarding the comments policy may be banned from commenting further.

(1) Comments should address the substantive content of the post. Comments that repeatedly or blatantly misrepresent the content of the post or of others' comments are not welcome. Comments that respond to something other than which the contributor or commenter may have said are irrelevant and should not be posted.

(2) Comments should avoid vulgarity as well as racial, ethnic, religious, or sexual bigotry.

(3) Comments should not personally attack the character, personal integrity, or professional reputation of any PoliGazette contributor or of other commenters.

(4) Comments should reflect the contributions of the commenters themselves and should not include extensive cut-and-paste reproductions of others' words except insofar as necessary to supplement the commenter's own arguments. Link spam, trackback spam, and propaganda spam will be instantly deleted.

(5) Public figures are considered open to all substantive criticism of their policies and statements. Comments that present objectively false factual information about public figures (i.e. "Obama is a Muslim") or that attack public figures by attacking their families are not welcome. Comments that merely repeat slogans for or against a candidate without engaging in substantive comment are not welcome.

Questions or challenges to these policies or their application should be directed to the editors by email only.
