Sarah Palin Reviews Media Treatment

January 8th, 2009 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

John Ziegler, documentary maker and blogger for Big Hollywood, a new blog founded by Andrew Breitbart, had the pleasure to interview Governor Sarah Palin for his latest documentary (he’s still working on it) uncovering the way U.S. media covered the 08 presidential elections. The interview shows that Palin is still upset by what she rightfully considers unfair treatment by America’s so-called topnotch journalists.

Ziegler added to the video he posted at Big Hollywood, and which we will also run here (see below) that Palin seemed to be the real deal; the way she presented herself nationally during the campaign is the real Palin, he believes, and the caricature of her painted by mostly liberal journalists is unfair. She is intelligent, Ziegler says, and quite knowledgeable about a wide range of issues.

Palin was most upset by the way U.S. media went after her family, not just after her. She is a public figure, so she is ready and willing to be ‘vetted.’ Her family is not fair game, however.

It was also clear to Palin that she was treated unfairly because she is a conservative. Had she been chosen to run as Barack Obama’s running mate, she said, “you had seen an entirely different and prettier picture” of her and her family.

Watch the video, it is a sad testimony to the present quality of most American news outlet that this woman is forced to defend her reputation, herself and her family as passionately as she did when she spoke to Ziegler. I am not exactly a fan of Palin, I think she is not a very informed person, and I think she needs to be educated before accepting any high national position. But she is not as bad as most media pretended either.

    The most gross issue during the presidential campaign was the manner in which the left-wing media peddled a continual stream of unsourced rumours about Palin – her baby was really her daughter’s, she didn’t know Africa was a continent, she spent $150k on clothes, etc etc. Virtually anything made up by a blogger was adopted by these hacks.

    The contrast with the adulation given to Caroline Kennedy, for no other reason than her blood, is startling. These people want an aristocracy.

    Someone needs to look into John Ziegler’s background and expose it. He’s a hack radio show call-in host with a pyschologocial disorder. Just go back to the controversy he caused when he was a host in Louisville Kentucky. This guy is a whack job and needs to be as far away from Palin as possible – for her sake.

    Chris: I don’t know anything about Ziegler or what you refer to but my impression was that he was well intentioned perhaps but also that I think you’re right that this will not help Palin. It is unfortunate, as Michael notes, that Palin is forced to defend herself, and yet there’s really no way to do that. Any and all attempts to complain in the public sphere about the media only make her look weaker- she needs to put it behind her and roll up her sleeves, getting to work to rebuild her reputation and then, if she decides to reenter the national political scene, to become more savvy about her media appearances.

    Bill Clinton was crucified in the media and almost impeached for a sexual indiscretion while George W. Bush was treated with kid gloves by the media for several years when he mislead the American people about going to war with Iraq, promoted torture and mistreatment of prisoners, held prisoners without a right to trial, and openly spied on America citizens.  Many of the Kennedy’s have also been media fodder at times.  In spite of the pathetic cries of the rightwing or the leftwing, the media, and comedians like Tina Fey promote whatever the public is interest in hearing.  Sarah Palin needs to take responsibility for her own actions.  She is the one who ignored the findings of Troopergate, she did spend an absurd $150,000 on clothing for her family, she could not tell Katie Couric where she got her news, she could not explain the job of the Vice President correctly to a third grader, and worst of all she was duped by a Canadian comedian who pretended to be the President of France.   I actually listened to the recording of the six minute phone call and I felt sorry for anyone who was that naive.   I certainly would not want anyone that naïve to be a heartbeat away from the President of the United States.     If Sarah Palin cannot stand the heat she should get out of the kitchen.

    Obviously Sarah Palin continues to be a lightening rod. Until that is no longer true, any look at the media coverage of her will get overwhelmed by the partisan support/attack.

    But I have to ask Bruwho, “George W. Bush was treated with kid gloves by the media”. Really?

    @Chris
    Are you serious? THIS IS A SYMPATHETIC venue and she still sounds like an utter moron, All she is doing is griping, complaining and being nasty. DID PALIN REALLY SAY, CATIE BECAUSE YOU´RE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE??? What a juvenile, trivial, petty whiner. GET OFF THE STAGE, SARAH because the media cannot make you look like a dolt, only YOU can do that…and you´ve done it again.
