Israel Ceases Fire, Hamas Continues Aggression

January 18th, 2009 By: Arvak | Tags:

Since the beginning of the latest Israel-Hamas conflict began 23 days ago, anti-Israel critics have consistently acted as if Israel alone had the power to stop the fighting any time it wanted to.  United Nations officials have abandoned all pretense of neutrality, condemning Israel for the casualties that inevitably result from Hamas’ widespread use of human shields and allowing use of its facilities in Gaza as launching grounds for Hamas mortars.  The global media has done its usual job of credulously accepting at face value whatever Hamas presents as truth.

Today, however, brings news that clearly demonstrates which side is the true aggressor in Gaza.  While the Israeli cabinet has, under grossly one-sided international pressure, agreed to an Egyptian proposal for a cease-fire, Hamas has vowed to continue its killing and use of human shields unabated.

Peace — even in a stunted form of a cease-fire, requires both sides’ willingness to sustain it.  As long as Hamas remains formally dedicated to genocide against Jews, it will be an untrustworthy partner in any peace process anyway.  Unfortunately, as long as the international media and the ideological partisans of the far left continue to romanticize Hamas, demonize the Israelis, and ignore the evidence right in front of them, Hamas will never feel the political pressure necessary to supplement military pressure in forcing them to moderate their position.  Israel’s more extreme critics become Hamas’ enablers when they do that.
