Klein: Jinda’s Blustering

February 23rd, 2009 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

TIME magazine’s Joe Klein wrote quite an interesting column about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s reaction to the economic stimulus plan passed by Congress recently. Even though I don’t agree with everything Klein says, I advise you to read his piece: he makes some good, valid points and it seems to me that Klein is the first liberal to truly go after the man who many believe will be the new leader of the Republican Party. In other words, Klein sets the tone for the attacks on Jindal.

Other Democrats (politicians, columnists, journalists and bloggers) will follow Klein’s lead. This is the criticism Jindal has to counter, in one way or another.

An important point made by Klein is that Jindal shouldn’t make the mistake to repeat what ‘the base’ wants him to say; he’s an intellectual first and foremost. That’s one of his major strengths. He should keep twisting, turning, distorting and spinning to a bare minimum.

Someone’s blustering, but it’s Klein, not Jindal. Klein is pushing the typical liberal mantra that no one who’s intelligent could possibly believe that fiscal conservatism makes sense, so anyone who advocates it must be pandering to the conservative base.

I hope Jindal makes a good presentation in his rebuttal speech; he’s certainly capable of it and if he hits the right notes, it’s on for 2012.

Oh, and it’s quite obvious that Klein is firing the first shot across the bow; expect a lot of heated criticism of Jindal from the left until they settle on a narrative that begins to stick against him. My bet is on his religious beliefs- he’ll be painted as a ‘Christianist’.

echo Christine. (Besides, we ignorant Republican’s wouldn’t vote for Jindal because we think he’s black and not Indian-American)
