Good News for Obama: Fearmongering Works

February 24th, 2009 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Recent opinion polls show that a majority of Americans support President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan and his plan to bail out homeowner who are no longer able to pay off their mortgage. The reason: Obama succeeded in terrifiying Americans so tremendously that they are willing to agree to any plan as long as they have the feeling their almighty government is doing something to help.

The above proves that fear is a powerful political tool. Former President George W. Bush used fear sometimes to counter opposition to his plans related to the War on Terror, Obama uses it to push through farreaching economic reforms.

Meanwhile, I can’t help but wonder to hope and change. Fearmongering is an age old political trick. Obama promised he would be different, that he would inspire rather than terrify Americans. His behavior shows this to be a lie; in this way at least, he is more of the same, nothing new.

How many years have the US citizens followed the color coded “Terror Alert”? I prefer this version:

“… he is more of the same, nothing new”.

While I think it is a bit of a stretch to call Obama’s administration Bush’s third term, it is not all that much of a stretch either. The fact that he has so far done virtually nothing to rescind ANY of Bush’s egregiously unconstitutional executive orders speaks volumes about both his integrity and his honesty. But for all those who voted for and believed that Obama was going to offer true “change”, I can only add, to paraphrase P.T. Barnum, there is one born every minute.
