Safari 4 Beta a Pleasure to Work With

February 25th, 2009 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

After reading some, mostly positive, reviews of the latest version of Apple’s browser Safari (4 Beta), I decided to download it and have a go at it. Safari already was one of my favorite browsers – I use three at this point in time: the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and, of course, Safari – but Beta 4 is, as the reviewers said as well, clearly an improvement compared to version 3.

The new Safari is (even) faster and looks cleaner. It resembles Google Chrome; a good browser, in my opinion, but less good than either Mozilla or Safari. In short, Chrome is my favorite third browser, or second backup.

I am especially fond of Safari 4’s “What’s Hot” feature; the concept was clearly copied from Google Chrome, but taken to the next step with some fancy 3D previews of your favorite websites. This is handy for someone like me who often switches from window to window, from site to site in the never ending quest for news worthy to writing about.

Although Safari may not be as good as Mozilla in the sense that it has less plugins, etc., Beta 4 confirmed my belief that Apple could very well take a larger share of the browser market in future years than it has at this moment. It’s good, workable and, for someone like me who owns an iPhone, a merry reminder of what it’s like to browse the Internet on that little laptop one can also use to call people with.

And no, my iPhone isn’t a ‘mobile’ or ‘cell’ phone. It’s a little laptop. Don’t tell me otherwise.

Although claimed by Apple as fastest browser, I dont think its qiute that fast! I have used many other browsers and feel that google crome is the fastest of them all. By the way they have added new features such as “cover flow” which I like very much.
