Democrats losing support

The most recent poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports show that Congressional Democrats are losing support. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a representative of the left wing of her party, has favorability ratings similar to Richard M. Nixon’s during his last days in office.

60% of likely voters hold a negative opinion of the lady from San Francisco.

Senator Harry Reid is also in trouble: only 29% of likely voters hold a favorable opinion of him, 45% would rather drink a cup of coffee with somebody else.

More important than any one individual poll are trends of course. And these trends show that especially Pelosi is falling hard and fast.

Two weeks ago, 36% viewed the San Francisco congresswoman favorably (15% Very Favorable) while 53% had an unfavorable opinion of her, including 37% Very Unfavorable. Eleven percent (11%) were undecided…

Among all voters, 29% have a favorable opinion of Reid, with six percent (6%) Very Favorable, and 45% view him unfavorably, with 28% Very Unfavorable. Twenty-seven percent (27%) don’t know enough about Reid to have an opinion of him. These numbers show little change from two weeks ago.

Democrats are losing support because Americans are angry with the bonuses AIG awarded to some of its employees. Additionally, many believe that the economic stimulus plan is (too) expensive and ineffective. Furthermore, Pelosi and Reid suffer from polls like this one, which show that more Americans than ever before believe that tax cuts are the best medicine against a recession.

Even though Americans have turned against Democrats, Republicans have failed to become more popular. Rather, voters are simply losing confidence in all politicians and in politics in general.

Although scepticism is normal and healthy, outright negativity is not. Lack of confidence and trust is always a major issue, but especially in the world’s largest and most powerful democracy. If Americans lose faith in their system, the country as a whole will be weaker. It will be governed by elitists who represent the minority who come out to vote on election day, because the majority believes there’s no use in voting.

It is very understandable while both Democratic Senator Reid of Nevada and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ratings are going down? They both secretly stripped E-Verify from the Stimulus/Omnibus spending bills. As an amendment E-Verify would have been refunded for another 5 years. Fact is they removed it so illegal aliens can still steal jobs, from 10 million jobless American Workers.
