toys stealing mom

That darn recession:

Felony charges have been filed on April 2 against a local foster mother who allegedly stole more than 11,000 toys.

According to the San Diego County District Attorney’s office, Virginia Kelly, 73, was arrested and charged with grand theft and embezzelment of thousands of toys from the well-known Toys for Tots program. Kelly accepted the toys from TFT to distribute to needy families, however, investigators believe Kelly sold the toys at garage sales for personal gain.

“Stealing from a charity and depriving needy children in San Diego of the chance to get a new toy is despicable,” said District Attorney Dumanis. “This criminal investigation has identified someone who brazenly took advantage of the community’s goodwill and trust for many years.”

What a nonsense, of course. She did what every mother in her situation would do: do everything to make money so she can feed her family. This woman isn’t a criminal, she’s a hero. She should be celebrated for her courage to break the law in order to survive.

Additionally, isn’t this what capitalism is all about?
