Palin Tackles Abortion

palin abortion

Governor Sarah Palin continues to court the social conservative base of the Republican Party. Speaking at an anti-abortion group’s dinner yesterday, she criticized President Barack Obama for supporting far-going abortion rights and she challenged the idea that unplanned pregnancies are a nuisance that can be solved by abortion, the Boston Globe reports.

She reveiled that when she was pregnant of her son Trig, and found out that he suffered from Down Syndrome, she prayed frequently, asking God for guidance and strength. Palin realized this was an opportunity for her to walk the pro-life walk.

“The moment he was born, I knew that moment my prayers had been answered,” Palin said. “Trig is a miracle. He is the best thing that ever happened to me and I want other women to have that opportunity.”

“I know for sure my son is perfect just as he is, made in the image of God,” she said. Life is ordained, life is precious.

Many will be inspired by her remarks: especially those who have a child with Down Syndrome will undoubtedly recognize themselves in them. Social conservatives finally found a candidate who does not merely talk the talk, but even walk the walk.

You have to wonder, however, whether Palin is wise to become a spokesperson and leader for social conservatives. One of the reasons her poll numbers were down last year was because Democrats and liberals in the media succeeded in portraying her as a Christian conservative wingnutter. This while she was elected governor of Alaska because she took on the establishment of both major parties. She was a Maverick and a reformer.

The more “anti-abortion dinners” she attends, the more she confirms the image created last year. This while Americans are en masse fed up with social issues – they care more about fiscal issues, reforming Washington, and keeping their job (and money). If Palin wants to run for president in 2012, she has to convince voters she is a problem solver, not an ideologue.

You obviously haven’t seen the last Rasmussen poll in late January which found her favorable numbers to be 52 percent, which includes 61 percent favorable among independent voters. She addressed other issues besides abortion on Thursday. Her statement that she is going to restart her engine gives me the impression that we will see and hear a lot more of her over the coming months. Now that the AK legislative session is over she can attend some of the hundreds of events she’s been invited to.

There is a saying that reality hurts. The stimulus package that was promoted by OBH actually came from FED loans from China, and now, Chinese are holding the nose of all americans. Whatever chinese tell americans to do, they will follow. If Chinese say to americans kiss their ass, americans will kiss their ass… 11 trilion dollars borrowed money from China, United States is now grouped among the third country. The most powerful nation on earth which is the United States is now just history. Sooner or later americans will seek employment in china for domestic work or prostitution. If you still continue to hate one of the few good governors of United States, and do not want to face the reality, then so be it.. God saves america!! I hope I see you guys for work in China!! Obama’s promise of buy american products is just a promise and a fantasy.. It will not happen.. Obama again flip-flopped!!

These people are such burden to all real americans.

“his while she was elected governor of Alaska because she took on the establishment of both major parties. She was a Maverick and a reformer.”

She portrayed herself as such – but her practices and cronyism reek of DC. She’s just low on self-awareness and honesty towards herself and others. I don’t consider her much of a “conservative” in any sense.

    Garland;
How would YOU recognize a conservative? You ridicule Palin because she’s not a true conservative and you ridicule conservatives because they ARE conservatives.

LOL yeah. We let it stand because it’s darn entertaining (and because we want to give Palinites room to defend their gal).

    C3: now that’s a good question.

Yeah, it is always amusing when extreme anti-conservatives start appointing themselves experts on what is and is not a conservative. Does anyone really think that their definitions will be fair?

Truth is that there are many different types of conservatives, and that uniform definitions — especially those imposed by anti-conservative enemies — are not very useful for anything except creating a foundation for abuse.

Michael, as a somewhat Palinite, even I don’t know what ELain is talking about though I thought she was on the wrong thread.

Why does anyone care if she a spokesperson and leader for social conservatives. She doesn’t govern that way. Nobody has shown me any policy, relating to her social views, that she has pushed through the legislature.

What I really like about her is, as she relates in her speech this week. She asked herself, if after all these years of claiming to be pro life if she could walk the talk now that she was challenged. We know the answer to that. Compare this to Obamas pledge to accept public financing or not having any lobbist in his administration. We know the answer to that as well. Which one of these reek of DC cronyism Garland.

“You ridicule Palin because she’s not a true conservative and you ridicule conservatives because they ARE conservatives.”

Yawn, no. Conservatism is nothing but scepticism – sometimes it is warranted, sometimes it is stupid. Just like its counterpart, optimism. The end result is probabilism: looking at all relevant factors and reaching the best solution for problems that can’t be solved with the application of principles.

Palin doesn’t even operate in that spectrum, she’s a political animal, sorta like the Clintons. Jason Arvak even mentioned Andrew Sullivan’s continuing fact-checking and lie-slamming of Palin and his conservatism-based denouncing of her and her place in the GOP. Of course, Jason only brought that up so that he could doubt Sullivan’s credibility on knowing priorities – seeing as Palin lost the race. Just a shame that she keeps showing up, and continues with her lying, and conservatives like Sullivan has to take her down in flames again. You’d think she’d give up by now.

The reality is Palin is running for president. The principal reason is she is desperately searching for venues that will give her a chance to undo the horrific embarrassment she caused herself and the nation with her childish hatred of Obama, idiotic performances during interviews and laughable pandering to the lunatic fringe.
With the help of new speech writers and teleprompters, she now is elevated to sounding like a like a fourth grader…a big improvement. The second reason she is running is she tasted the national spotlight and other than showing the world how moronic and bigoted she is, she thinks it shines favorably on her. Unfortunately for the wingnut Palin, the public is more aware, day be day, that she is the most repulsive, grotesque reactionary to seek high office since Spiro Agnew; and she is unelectable both locally and nationally going forward. Thank goodness !!

Yes, Garland, Sullivan’s insistence that Palin must be forced to waive her right to privacy and make her medical records public is a perfect example of criticism on the basis of conservative principles. Just like he consistently believes that individuals who are the subject of public questioning about their private lives should always be willing to release records in order to disprove any and all rumors that might come up. If the rumors are untrue, then no one needs to worry, so no need for privacy, right?

Oh, wait. That’s not a conservative principle at all, but is actually the antithesis of one. And oh, what’s that? Sullivan himself has defended his own right to privacy and has (appropriately) said that rumor mongers should be ignored, not answered? Huh, go figure.
