Miss California Under Fire First, Hero of the Right Now
Miss America is always an interesting event. The most beautiful American women compete against each other for the crown.
Beauty is not the only factor involved, however. Judges also ask questions to the contestents. These questions were simple: “what is your dream?” “if you were president for a day what would you do,” etc. In this day in age, however, questions are often more complicated.
Miss California was one of the favorites for the Miss USA title this year. She is absolutely beautiful, articulate, and intelligent. Sadly for her, she came closs but lost because gay activist Perez Hilton asked her whether or not she believes gay marriage should be legalized throughout the country. Her answer? No. She was happy that different states can choose, she said, but she personally believes marriage is and should be between one man and a woman.
Hilton responded angrily at his blog. He blasted her for her answer, calling her a “dumb bitch,” and what not.
Miss California became an instant hero of the right, however. Yesterday, she appeared on Neil Cavuto’s show at Fox News to speak about the Miss America contest, Perez Hilton, her political views, and her career. Watch the video:
That is impressive alright. Especially for those of us (like me) who always assume that a Miss is the typical dumb blonde. There is nothing dumb about this young lady.
AllahPundit and Patterico are both extremely charmed by her. She is not only smart and beautiful, but a conservative. She told Cavuto that she does not only oppose gay marriage, but bailouts and welfare as well. Tax payer’s money should not be spent to bail out individuals or companies, she said.
That is about as conservative as it gets, does it not?
Ironically, I think that Perez Hilton did this young lady and the entire conservative movement a tremendous service by going after her. If she is associated by Americans with conservatism, well, I do not quite see how that is a bad thing. She is intelligent, beautiful, modern, articulate, etc. – conservatism has had worse spokes(wo)men.
Watch the video:

“MARRIAGE” is a union between a MAN and a WOMAN. Period. Let us not REDEFINE it. Why not call a union between same sex couples as a “PARTNERSHIP” or a “SPECIAL UNION” with the SAME EQUAL RIGHTS as that of a married couple? Again, the same equal rights. But call it ANOTHER NAME because, again, MARRIAGE is a union between a man and a woman. Elton John got it right… and he’s gay. Words like “beautiful”, “pretty”, “gorgeous” ** they all mean the same. Every year, new words are added to the Mirriam-Webster Dictionary. Come up with a NEW WORD for SAME SEX UNION, invent if you must — so same sex couples can call it their very own. And, I will reiterate – same equal rights as that of marriage.

So many people have turned away from God and have made their own rules. Lord have mercy on them who fall into the ways of the world.
If conservatism had some serious intellectual standard bearers, then this would all be part of the mix. But after seriously overestimating Joe the Plumber’s intellectual heft, do we really need another (albeit prettier) gimmick? Nothing wrong with her getting a flurry of attention to articulate these views, but let’s not overdo it.
“She told Cavuto that she does not only oppose gay marriage, but bailouts and welfare as well. Tax payer’s money should not be spent to bail out individuals or companies, she said. That is about as conservative as it gets, does it not?”
I don’t think opposing gay marriage is *necessarily* a result of the conservative philosophy or a skeptical outlook.
But yeah, she’s plenty hot. I wonder how it would appeal to feminists to consider that a factor in deciding to put her at the forefront of anything that isn’t brea- I mean beauty-related. Sorta like Palin – feminists don’t want a person hired/appointed because of her gender any more than they want her to not be considered for a position because of it.
If ALL of creation does not validate a same sex union, what gives mankind the right to impose it on creation?
Sadly, Perez Hilton does not believe the Holy Bible and God’s word. If he did, he would know that it is a sin for men to be with men and women with women. If Mr. Hilton had not wanted Miss California’s truthful opinion, he should not have asked for it, and it certainly should not have been one of the factors in choosing Miss America.
“If he did, he would know that it is a sin for men to be with men and women with women.”
No one cares about what the bible says about homosexuality. The bible has good and bad content, but you can’t have a functioning society if you take it utterly word for word and apply it. The notion that homosexuality is sinful is dangerous, insulting, cruel and bad for society. Homophobia is just as bad as racism. If you ask me it’s a sin to forgo love and your sexuality because some book tells you its wrong.
This is flatly wrong. Some people care a great deal about what the Bible says. While you may disagree with the status they give to the Biblical text, it is rude for you to disrespect their faith by declaring it non-existent just because you hold a different creed or no creed at all.
I understand and empathize with much of the criticisms of Christian fundamentalism. What I cannot endorse or accept is the persistent way that some anti-Christians have in rudely and egregiously overreaching in the manner they choose to express their disagreements with Christians. If you cannot be civil in the manner in which you disagree, you shouldn’t comment on those subjects.
This seems unquestionably true to me and a major point that her critics ignore or evade. She didn’t volunteer an anti-gay opinion, she was specifically asked and then she was punished for not giving the “required” answer. Sadly, freedom of conscience and freedom of belief and freedom of expression seem not to be valued AT ALL by many of our friends on the left. To them, you have only the freedom to express unreserved and enthusiastic agreement with them. If you don’t, you are subject to punishment.
“Sadly, freedom of conscience and freedom of belief and freedom of expression seem not to be valued AT ALL by many of our friends on the left.”
Of course we believe in those freedoms, and we believe in our freedom to change the zeitgeist and society to the point that people who hold undeniably wrong – and in this case also hurtful and irrational – opinions find themselves not being flavor of the month wherever they go. Then they may stop having wrong opinions and start agreeing with us on matters that shouldn’t even have been disagreed upon in the first place – and we didn’t even have to send her to one of the cam… I’ve said too much.
All opinions are allowed – that doesn’t mean we have to allow people to go without negative responses to all of their opinions. We don’t outlaw opinions, we just make them unpalatable, not taken seriously and in some cases unacceptable in certain circumstances. For example, there is always some foofaraw about the beliefs and expressed opinions of newly appointed members of a new administration. Think Obama would appoint a self-declared 9/11 “truther”? No, and this dynamic can and should exist in the social sphere of society as well.
It’s funny, that even if “we” forgo violent or purely legislative options to change people’s minds and instead go for changing how society views certain positions and beliefs, “we” still are told “we” don’t respect freedom. Hey, no one sent her to the arena to get eaten by lions. She doesn’t get violins.
@John Cope Rice
Its Miss USA NOT Miss America.
Hooray for standing up for the things you value and believe in. What she said was she didn’t care what other people thought or did and didn’t condenm them, but for her and only her, she is obviously hetro and believed marriage should be between a man and a woman. This is still the USA and I, like her, like everyone, has a right to their own opinion. And when asked they will offer it up. Personally, I think she was set up to fail. Someone had to know she had Christian beleifs. That question was inappropriate and far too political to be asked at an event like a pageant. Hey Donald, what say you?
@Jean Turner
“If Mr. Hilton had not wanted Miss California’s truthful opinion, he should not have asked for it”
Jean, I say “amen” to that. So this proves that Hilton was gunning for Carrie. And didn’t he proved it when none of the other contestants were asked this question? What if she’d refused to answer? Would the results have been the same? I applaud this young lady for her convictions and the faith of Daniel to stand firm and speak her feelings.
I can’t believe this Miss California story is being so blown out of proportion. I think people need to let up on her. She has a traditional view on marriage and that is okay. If anything, i respect her for giving her real opinion on the issue! Anyway, i found this video today that shows how different news outlets are covering the story… definitely worth a look:

Perez Hilton made an awfully quick transition from respectable pageant judge to vindictive media beast
How sad is it that Perez Hilton can keep a woman from acheiving her dreams because of her difference of opinion?
Hilton is no judge; what he did was out of spite, and he knows it. Shame on him.
Unfortunately, all he’ll get is a slap on the wrist while Miss California goes home empty handed, a life-long dream shattered because of one intolerant fool.
@John Cope Rice
You are entitled to your opinion. And no one expects anyone to marry gay if they are not gay.
However, the argument about “not redefining marriage” is a stupid one, because it’s inaccurate. Marriage has been redefined many times. What you’re saying is simply that in THIS instance, you object.
What I don’t understand is why anyone cares what gays do. I have a news flash for you: gay people exist, and somewhere, right now, they’re doing unspeakable sex acts, whether you like it or not. If they were married, how does that change anything? In fact, I think that’s why it’s opposed, because it would make the acts that they do A-OK because it’s within the confines of a marriage.
The outrage is because you’re looking at a right you enjoy, and denying it to others. If people were forcing you to marry someone of the same sex, I’d understand your distress, but in this case, all it amounts to is not wanting to share the toybox of rights you enjoy with people you may never encounter, but have successfully enjoined from establishing a stable home environment.
Learn to be a christian, turn the other cheek and make sure YOU live well, let others live their own way.
serbia says
no gay!! that is serbian opinion!!everything in the world universe is + and -.that is how things works!simple
theres an old lawyer trick in the court room.
Nevah ask a question if you dont know what the answer is going to be.
Perez Hilton asked a question assuming he knew what the answer would be given the fact this WAS ms. California and California IS the GAY capitol of the world.
They should rewrite the rules so that all future Ms. California abide by a set of rules and answer questions in a manner that is politically correct and that is acceptable to the state….er the left…er the liberals…er the people running and organizing the event.
In the future all Ms. California’s cannot be Christians. Cannot be opposed to any liberal position and cannot have an iq above 100. They must all be blond and abide by the Liberal Faux nationalist agenda.
Attn. christians and conservatives. You cannot haz martyr complex. Not yours.
Nice try Garland but we all know what the agenda is here by the left. It has nothing to do with freedom of speech. There is no such right for those who oppose your or the lefts nationalist agenda. You can feint your “faux” moral superiority all you like but the truth remains the truth.
Thou shalt not have viewpoints that are opposed to the fascist national agenda of the left wing of the Democratic party.
If you do. Well then we are coming for you. We will try to destroy your life and career. We are coming for you. It is after all the Fascist way.
“There is no such right for those who oppose your or the lefts nationalist agenda.”
Course there is, christian martyr – I just want to make you ineligible for a beauty pageant victory if you decide to claim that your religion should have anything to do about the rights of fellow citizens. Yes, even if you were asked for your honest opinion. If a left-winger was asked about the class divide and said that a violent take-over of the bourgeoisie was in order I would have understood if the beauty pageant judges/sponsors would have her out of the running.
“Thou shalt not have viewpoints that are opposed to the fascist national agenda of the left wing of the Democratic party. If you do. Well then we are coming for you. We will try to destroy your life and career. We are coming for you. It is after all the Fascist way.”
Sad. A communist take-over by the democrat fascists and some ensuing oppression would probably be the best thing for you and other self-appointed martyrs and “brave dissenters” – the real world would at last match the absurd one you’ve convinced yourself you live in. Finally you could be like the Wolverines, finally the left-wing boogeymen would turn out to exist and the world would be simple.
Of course we know that a Christian cannot have views that are in contradiction with the nationalist agenda. Her opinion that marriage is between a man and a woman disqualifies her because she spoke out against the national agenda of the far left Fascist machine.
Do not dare to stand for your values if they are in contradiction to the smear machine of the left. They are coming for you and they will have their retribution.
One cannot hope to say that Marriage is between a man and a woman and not expect to be smeared, rebuked and every attempt at destroying your life made to teach you a lesson.
The Rights of Citizen A is trumped by the rights of citizen B.
Mob rule eh Garland? Is this not the very thing that the founding fathers preached against when they instituted the 1st amendment?
BE afrad. Very afraid for the left is coming for you if you oppose their nationalist agenda.
It is sad that in your world Garland that speaking your mind is to be squelched or at least punished and those who speak out against it are painted as Martyrs and desiring a communist take over.
I am warning of the dangerous path the Democratic party is taking with no opposition to them. When opposition arises what is the result. Ms. Prejean shows us quite well.
