Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela: ‘Capitalism Threatens Life’
South America’s idiotic socialist leaders have come out with a declaration in which they state that “capitalism is leading humanity and the planet to extinction.” It is yet another sign that Hugo Chavez and his buddies continue to radicalize.
The Heads of State and Government of Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela issued a declaration saying that the Draft Declaration of the 5th Summit of the Americas is insufficient and unacceptable.
1. Capitalism is leading humanity and the planet to extinction. What we are experiencing is a global economic crisis of a systemic and structural nature, not another cyclic crisis. Those who think that with a taxpayer money injection and some regulatory measures this crisis will end are wrong. The financial system is in crisis because it trades bonds with six times the real value of the assets and services produced and rendered in the world, this is not a “system regulation failure”, but a integrating part of the capitalist system that speculates with all assets and values with a view to obtain the maximum profit possible. Until now, the economic crisis has generated over 100 million additional hungry persons and has slashed over 50 million jobs, and these figures show an upward trend.
2. Capitalism has caused the environmental crisis, by submitting the necessary conditions for life in the planet, to the predominance of market and profit. Each year we consume one third more of what the planet is able to regenerate. With this squandering binge of the capitalist system, we are going to need two planets Earth by the year 2030.
3. The global economic crisis, climate change, the food crisis and the energy crisis are the result of the decay of capitalism, which threatens to end life and the planet. To avert this outcome, it is necessary to develop and model an alternative to the capitalist system.
This ‘new system’ is of course a very old one. In fact, it has already been tried by numerous countries, and has led to their own collapse time and again:
- solidarity and complementarity, not competition;
- a system in harmony with our mother earth and not plundering of human resources;
- a system of cultural diversity and not cultural destruction and imposition of cultural values and lifestyles alien to the realities of our countries;
- a system of peace based on social justice and not on imperialist policies and wars;
- in summary, a system that recovers the human condition of our societies and peoples and does not reduce them to mere consumers or merchandise.
It is embarrassing that we actually have to take these people serious, but I am afraid we do. They are powerful, after all, and they influence many hundreds of millions of citizens, journalists, quasi-intellectuals, professors, writers, actors and other ’second-hand dealers in ideas.’ They are leading their own countries to financial ruin, all because they believe an inherently weak and wrong system can help their people become ‘developed.’
Or, at the very least, take developed countries down to their own level.
You would think that the battle between socialism and capitalism (thus free markets) was won when the Soviet Union fell, but no; South America’s leaders are determined to let history repeat itself. They are free to do so, of course; most of them won elections fair and square.
We cannot allow them to take the rest of the world with them, however. Socialism is an expansionist ideology. If you think it can be limited to one country by doing absolutely nothing to prevent it from spreading, you are dead wrong. Ronald Reagan’s strategy used against the Soviet Union was a winner, because he realized you had to fight communism (and its little brother socialism) actively and aggressively. The declaration is nothing less than a declaration of war on capitalism. We have to answer in kind.

“The declaration is nothing less than a declaration of war on capitalism.”
A war of ideas. As long as we use sane arguments about the benefits of capitalism and the comparatively acceptable problems it entails, we’ll win. Ramping up the rhetoric and talking about a clash of good and evil will only lead to more resentment and upped stakes.
These loons have a friend in the White House and even more in Congress. It’s a shame, but the American voters won’t wake up until it’s too late. The mass media have turned against capitalism and individual responsibility and will stand by as the yoke of socialism is slowly put around our necks.
I am shocked that Honduras and Dominica have now been
taken over by these genocidal Marxists as well. All that
is leading these filthy Marxists is the love of money
that they will get from the global Marxist UN dictatorship
by making these kinds of proclamations to further grow
the UN’s power.
I am sorry guys,
I have to disagree with you all on this. Both sides are using faulty and self-fulfilling logic and neither system is perfect. If capitalism were perfect, we would not go through these crises just as if socialism were perfect the U.S.S.R. would not have crashed. A huge reason that these countries do not excel is because many other capitalist countries (like the U.S.A.) deny them resources and financial support that we willingly lend to other fascist regimes that will exploit their people so we can live a life of unnecessary luxury. To say that “Socialism is an expansionist ideology” and that it is something we need to squelch is just as ridiculous as saying that Christianity and its missionary ideals are expansionist and thus we need to crush that too. And finally to say that the scholars that believe in this sort of doctrine are “quasi-intellectuals” is not only insulting but also ignorant; regardless of whether or not you agree with our ideals there is a lot of evidence to support our ideas just as there is for you. Next time you wish to make a post I suggest trying to be a bit more open minded and not so scathing on a certain belief because it only alienates those that you would wish to convince and closes you off to the world.
Hey Jason,
Can you tell me where Socialism actually works? Besides Sweden?
The USA military supply system is socialist (moneyless and ownerless) and so is the USA public library system. Lots of intelligent non-capitalist folks don’t do monetary discrimination. ANY potluck dinner or barnraising… is socialist.
I am a Bolivian citizen and I will try to be quick in my response. I can only comment on statements referring to Bolivia.
1) I do not understand how you can call Bolivia a socialist country; we are experiencing the greatest democratic revolution in our turbulent history. Our current President, Evo Morales, was elected by over 65% of the voting population; and any major political decision has gone through referendums that have also been approved by over 60% of the voting population.
2) Financial ruin? Quite frankly, (don’t be offended) that is an absurd statement when it refers to Bolivia. International economic examiners have declared Bolivia the country better prepared for the recession, by nationalizing its natural resources it has increased the reserves of the Bolivian monetary funds, which on itself it is also used for social works that have already eradicated analphabetism, have opened over 500 clinics and 1800 new schools across the country and is now providing free education, breakfast, and lunch to students in public schools. All the data on how the funds are used can be accessed by any Bolivian citizen any time.
3) Stop being brainwashed by the media, Hugo Chavez has a mind of his own just like all the other presidents of the countries you mentioned. You should pay more attention on what each president is doing in their own countries instead judging them by anything you see, hear, and read.
4) The “systems” tried and failed have failed because as soon as they were starting to work your government declared them communists and either assassinated the presidents or overthrew the local governments. Those “ old/new systems” are only interested in making sure that whenever a resource is exploited the people that benefit the most from it are the citizens/owners of those resources and not the multi-national companies. In a capitalist system the ones that benefit the most are the companies themselves, and the only thing that matters is profit.
5) Stop being afraid for something you don’t understand and get informed.
