GOP Reaches Out to Huffington Post

Hot Air reports, quoting Politico, that when Senator Tom Coburn wanted to pitch his criticism of the Democrats’ health care plan last month, he decided to ignore conservative websites and, instead, turned to the Huffington Post.
Hot Air calls this decision “understandable yet repulsive.”
Understandable because the HuffPo is incredibly big and influential – ‘mainstream media’ reporters often visit the liberal news and opinion site in the morning in order to find items / news to write about – and repulsive because it is rather obviously a far-left website.
I share Hot Air’s initial concerns but have commend Coburn for his savviness. He wants to reach millions of people, people who may not read RedState and other conservative websites, but who can make a different nonetheless. The average American.
How do you reach them? Well, by using the MSM. How do you use the MSM? By posting at the HuffPo.
Is that fair? Of course it is not. But it is reality.
Instead of complaining, conservative bloggers should use Coburn’s decision as inspiration to persist and to become as big and powerful as the HuffPo; in fact, some of them are quite influential already, they just have to learn to use it.

PoliGazette Comments Policy
PoliGazette encourages comments from all viewpoints, especially those that disagree.
Comments submitted must, however, adhere to the following standards. Comments that violate
these standards may be edited or deleted without notice at the sole discretion of the editors.
Commenters who repeatedly or egregiously violate these standards or who attempt to argue
publicly with editors regarding the comments policy may be banned from commenting further.
(1) Comments should address the substantive content of the post. Comments that repeatedly
or blatantly misrepresent the content of the post or of others' comments are not welcome. Comments that
respond to something other than which the contributor or commenter may have said are irrelevant and should
not be posted.
(2) Comments should avoid vulgarity as well as racial, ethnic, religious, or sexual bigotry.
(3) Comments should not personally attack the character, personal integrity, or professional
reputation of any PoliGazette contributor or of other commenters.
(4) Comments should reflect the contributions of the commenters themselves and should not

the commenter's own arguments. Link spam, trackback spam, and propaganda spam will be instantly deleted.
(5) Public figures are considered open to all substantive criticism of their policies and statements.
Comments that present objectively false factual information about public figures (i.e. "Obama is a Muslim") or
that attack public figures by attacking their families are not welcome. Comments that merely repeat
slogans for or against a candidate without engaging in substantive comment are not welcome.
Questions or challenges to these policies or their application should be directed to the editors
by email only.
Redstate basically is just talking to the wall as compared to Huffpo. What would they prefer, a direct appeal to more people, or a post on an ideologically pure site, followed by filtering elsewhere?
To be fair, even going on Fox News would be better if you wanted to appeal to a larger audience. With the numbers they boast, it ought to be viewed by a lot of people.
