New York Daily News reports:

A small improvised explosive device detonated outside an Upper East Side Starbucks early Monday morning, shattering the coffee shop’s windows and raising fears of terrorism.

The bomb tore a hole in a wooden bench outside the coffee chain’s outpost at Third Ave. and E. 92nd St. when it exploded at 3:30 a.m.

No one was injured in the blast, but it terrified residents who had been fast asleep early on Memorial Day.

“I heard a giant noise — a big, giant noise, like a crash — and there was a flash,” said Jordan Kovnot, 26, a law student who lives above the Starbucks. “It made me jump up.”

Detectives ran to the scene immediately and are currently investigating it. One hopes this was not a terrorist attack, but has to wonder what else it could have been.

The explosion came shortly after four men were arrested in the Bronx at the moment they wanted to blow up a synagogue and take down an airplane. At least three of the four were extremist Muslims, it is likely that all four were. The men were arrested by the FBI, who had infiltrated the small terrorist ring months earlier.

Was this terrorism? If so – and it seems likely that it was – who’s behind it? Is this ‘the new terrorism’: small scale attacks in ‘normal’ neighborhoods, meant to give Americans the impression they can be hit anywhere, anytime?

If so, very, very troubling.

Lastly: we should not forget that left-wing extremists could also be behind the bombing. In fact, the more I read about today’s blast, the more I suspect such a group.

We’ll have to wait and see, I’m afraid.

Guess the DHS needs to commission a new report about left-wing extremists? Or were they eco-terrorists?

Looks like a couple of kids messing around with a McGyver bomb.
I doubt it has a dang thing to do with terrorism. If it does they
must be the stupidest terrorists ever.
I myself am an independent, and I can promise you that you
won’t find me in a damn starbucks… I like plain ol’ coffee
