Likud: Obama is meddling in Israeli affairs

June 3rd, 2009 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags: , , , , ,

imageLikud is not happy with American president Barack Obama. Likud MK’s (Members of Knesset) said they believe he is meddlng in Israeli politics by, among others, trying to get Kadiima to join the government coalition and perhaps even blow it up.

Obama believes it is easier to do business with Kadima than with Likud because the latter has accepted the principle of Palestinian statehood, while the latter refuses to do so. Furthermore, Kadima has proved willing to destroy settlements, and may be willing to ground all settlement building to a halt, and to start destroying existing ones in the West Bank.

It is unlikely that Likud is willing to do so, so the White House has decided it has to get Kadima to join the coalition and / or blow it up.

Obviously, Likud ministers and MKs are not happy with the new US policies. They rightly believe that Israelis not Americans decide what happens in their country. Lest we forget, Israel is a democracy. If voters are not happy with Benyamin Netanyahu, they can get rid of him. As it is, however, he can count on quite some support and the trust from the Israeli people.

Although Obama and others are right when they say that Israel will, sooner or later, have to destroy its settlements – you cannot build homes in lands that do not belong to you – the new confrontational policy is likely to fire back. Some reports say that Israel is already cozying up to Russia, for instance, and that Netanyahu et al. believe they can no longer count on loyal American support. Obama has to take that into account, to put it mildly – Israel is not merely dependent on the United States, America also depends on Israel.

Great I have heard everything. “Likud: Obama is meddling in Israeli affairs”.
For decades Israel has meddleded in American politics by insuring that their lobbies pretty much dictate Israeili interests.

Now Israel is accusing America in meddling in their politics?

    Weird.
