In addition to my own post condemning the birthers (which IS linked in the post), here are some more (note that these are far more mainstream members of the conservative blogosphere than the birthers, yet they are persistently ignored and their existence denied by people like you, Madelyn):

http://rightwingnuthouse.com/archives/2009/08/03/birthers-vs-truthers-war-of-the-loons/ (Rick Moran)

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,536720,00.html (O'Reilly)

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/12/05/truthers-to-the-left-of-me-truthers-to-the-right/ (Michelle Malkin)

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200907220021 (a liberal site linking to Joe Scarborough's condemnation of birthers)

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MjQyOTgxM2M0YWMxOTdhZDcwMzlmMDU1ZGYxNzFkMmQ= (David Horowitz)

http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/33988_Orly_Taitz-_Nirther_Mastermind (the very conservative LGF leads the charge against birthers)

http://hotair.com/archives/2008/12/04/the-sadly-obligatory-scotus-birth-certificate-post/ (Ed Morrissey, dean of the conservative blogosphere)

Is that enough for you to concede the point that the prominence of birthers is being dramatically exaggerated by your lefty friends? Or are you willing to embrace such dishonesty when it is politically convenient as a way to evade debate on substantive issues, Madelyn?

The fact that you revel in having serious political debates sabotaged by the influence of wackos exposes a problem with latent hostility to the democratic process at the root of YOUR politics, Madelyn. Of course, coming from a representative of a post-modern variant of the liberal movement that too often endorses speech codes on college campuses, using the power of the federal government to shut down political dissent on the radio, and other forms of suppression of political speech, I guess this should be expected.

It is curious why, in this link-ridden editorial, the sentence that makes me the most curious ("they are ignoring the vast majority of conservatives who condemn the “birthers”) has no link at all. Who are you talking about? And can you link to them condemning the birther movement?

I hope you don't come up with a link, honestly. I'm a leftie, and can do nothing but rejoice at the conservative fringe shouting down "the vast majority of conservatives" until said majority is rendered silent. Naturally, it is the liberal media that is keeping these people down, right, which is how we have had conservative presidents for 18 of the last 26 years, right?

Couldn't be happier. Spout on.
