Time to Pimp Rice

September 23rd, 2009 By: Michael van der Galien | Tags:

Nina Easton wrote a tremendous op-ed for CNN in which she argues that Republicans have to pimp Condi Rice:

To skeptics in search of a political home, the GOP’s image has devolved into that of a minority collection of name-calling, “no”-saying, backward-looking, talk-show bullying cranks — a definition gleefully perpetuated by Democratic pols. So next time the eloquent and elegant figure of Condoleezza Rice strides onto a stage, GOP strategists worried about their party’s future should pull out their notebooks.

I interviewed Rice onstage last week on the closing day of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women’s Summit, where she achieved a star-turn — and did so while mounting a vigorous defense of former President Bush’s oft-vilified foreign policy, and delivering a pointed critique of President Obama and congressional Democrats.

First things first; the GOP is in less bad a shape than the Democratic Party. Yeah, Dems are in control of all branches of government, but they would lose the elections if they were held today – and chances are they’ll lose them next year as well.

That does not mean that Republicans are popular, however. Just like Democrats won because they succeeded in discrediting Republicans and their ideas not because the American people suddenly supported the party’s far-left plans, Republicans have made a comeback in the polls because voters have turned against Democrats. And for no other reason than that.

This means that once Republicans make a comeback Dems could very easily do what they did during Bush 43rd’s administration: Go after Republicans relentlessly until voters believe they’re nothing more than a bunch of corrupt villains which will inevitably result in victories for Democrats.

I admire and respect Condoleezza Rice. I trust her and believe she loves
this nation. She broke my heart when she did not run for President. This
country would be a much better place if Condi was in the Whitehouse. I hope
she will rethink her decision, if we still have a country in 2012! She is
brilliant and may be our last hope.

My opinion about Condi has not changed; she’s impressive.

She can not and will not win the primary because rural America will not elect a unmarried woman to the highest office

The Easton article was loonie whining by a liberal reporter who normally pimps for Obama.

The reason why you are seeing these reports is that Sarah Palin is a freight train that is headed right at an extremely corrupt and clueless Washington G.O.P.. The D.C. people (namely the Bushie clowns who ran the party into the ditch during the Bush 2nd Term) are looking for a savior to do Anybody But Sarah).

I predict that Rice isn’t foolish enough to fall for this scam. Besides, as much as I respect Condi Rice, and I do, Sarah Palin can actually lead people. Rice can’t do that. Rice has intelligence galore and high wisdom. That’s not the same as being able to persuade people to do things they might not otherwise want to do.

That’s leadership. Sarah has that. I don’t think Rice does.

I think that the biggest thing going on probably is that everyone is voting against the other side and not *for* their side.

And I think that part of why that is is illustrated beautifully by CassavaLeaf. At least for Republicans no one, NO ONE, is voting for the person they LIKE. They are all voting for the person they believe is the least offensive, most bland, unlikable, but in a *good* way, candidate.

Rural America won’t vote for an unmarried woman? Why not? Rural America would be more willing (in my rural-roots opinion) to vote for an unmarried woman than a married one! And that’s only if it matters at all.

Stop making decisions based on someone elses supposed narrow-mindedness and start voting for the person who you like the best.

If we don’t start to vote FOR someone we are beyond pathetic.

Hmmm… that’s the second blog I’ve visited with the line “Palin can lead; Rice can’t” Is there a Talking Points memo out there that I haven’t seen?

If there is a memo, and it’s not in there, it damn well should be. There’s lot’s of evidence if you look, with a balanced eye, at her experience as Governor, her acceptance speech and her grace and humor under massive amount of fire from all directions. She changed the debate on health care with a Facebook post. She make the very shrewd choice to drop the Governor role and very clearly knows what she is doing. I say the woman can lead. You can disagree.

With Palin in the WH, you know Condi will be back in action full steam ahead. That said, if Condi were on the ballot, she’d get my vote. Overall, I just think she’s stronger in the field, protecting and facilitating the administration, rather than acting as it’s figurehead.
