Richard Cohen just loves Obama
Because he can’t help falling in love, with the Messiah:
If, as the saying goes, the perfect is the enemy of the good, then Barack Obama is his own worst enemy.
That becomes clear in the upcoming HBO documentary “By the People: The Election of Barack Obama,” which is the product of many months of behind-the-scenes access to Obama during the presidential campaign.
It reveals — you will be surprised to learn — that
What? What does it reveal? Tell me now. I can’t wait to hear what’s coming next. What dirty little secret will we discover?
that Barack Obama is pretty close to the most perfect person you will never get to know.
Dude.

Isnt he married to Meridith Vieira from the NBC Today Show?
I read this piece differently. It seemed to me that he was being somewhat sarcastic about the “most perfect person” line, and expressing an opinion that the documentary was shallow and ineffective because it presented only the campaign managed image of Obama without any human characteristics that would make him more sympathetic or warm and fuzzy to the viewer.
I don’t know enough of Cohen’s other writings or opinions to know if my interpretation is accurate, but that’s how it came across to me.
Agree with Christian. Cohen is left of center but he bemoans the documentary’s persistent worshipful tone.
And appropriately suggests that if we elect him because of his “messiah-like” qualities then we can’t help but be disappointed when he turns out to be “one of us”
